  1. Beating bad teams is what good teams are supposed to do. And the Sox have done that. But unless the Sox are only playing games against Florida teams this season, I'd hit the breaks on the 'easy road to the playoffs' narrative.
  2. Whoever is in charge of that Ellsbury vs JBJ tracker has a lot less work to do now.
  3. I can't wait for this afternoon's newest episode of "Who Wants to be on the DL"
  4. Geez it's only day 2 and we're already onto our 7th outfielder in the depth chart.
  5. Stanton. That is all.
  6. I do that everyday. You guys wait until Opening Day??!!
  7. Oh s*** a game thread. Now I'm starting to get excited.
  8. Of course the platoon won't match prime Bird (does that even exist if you only have like 300 career ABs?). But the offense is stacked enough to absorb one of our top 4 hitters going down. I mean the offense was top 3 last year without Bird for most of the year. And is still better than last year without Bird: Holliday vs Stanton (no comparison needed) Castro vs Wade (Castro was definitely a better hitter but Wade is a lot better fielder with hitting upside) Headley vs Drury (Headley had his moments last year, but was mostly a singles hitter. Drury should be a noticeable upgrade) Carter vs Walker/Austin (Carter was trash. 50 year old Jason Giambi would've been an upgrade over him) So yeah, if we could mash with those guys last year.. we should still mash this year. Plus some.
  9. I'm actually looking forward to seeing Austin play because it also means Wade will get more playing time at 2B with Walker playing mostly first. Heck, the Walker/Austin platoon can't be worse than Chris Carter last year.
  10. We about to unleash Tyler Austin on the AL East!!!
  11. If Bird comes back healthy after 6-8 weeks I'd look to trade him. As talented as he is, you can't count on the guy to play a whole season.
  12. Aaron Boone calls Judge "Judgey" and Wade "Wader". I already want him gone.
  13. Wade and Toe both probably start on the 25 until Ellsbury gets off of the DL. Then who knows.
  14. Yanks clinch East by May 30th
  15. I think Lind will be gone. Of course they'll offer him a minor league contract but I don't think someone as established as him would be willing to settle for that. But I could be wrong about the whole thing.
  16. His -2.1 UZR looks a lot better than whatever Castro had. Infield defense definitely won't be a strength for the Yankees, but Didi is an above average fielding SS and everyone else is average or slightly below average.
  17. Neil Walker being signed now almost guarantees Torres and Andujar start in AAA. Walker can play 1B so he can effectively replace Tyler Austin. My guess is Wade, Toe, Romine, Ells are the bench guys.
  18. Yanks signed Adam Lind to a minor league contract. Not a glitzy move but a good move nonetheless. With Bird's injury history I think he is good depth at first. And should Bird get injured again (please no) they can platoon Lind/Austin against righties/lefties. Lind last season for WAS:.303/.362/.513 (OPS+ 123) over 301 PAs.
  19. Both Torreyes and Wade have minor league options remaining. So no big deal if one or both don't make the 25-man roster come April. Like Jacko said, Drury gives us an MLB ready option (who has plenty of upside) in case the kids aren't ready yet.
  20. Yankees X Factors: Stay healthy and hit a s*** ton of HRs. They realistically could have 8 guys hit 20+ HRs (4 of those 8 could hit 30+, and 2 of those 4 could hit 50+).
  21. Both teams are pretty similar. It would not surprise me if either/both teams finished with 100+ wins. But it will take a lot of things to go right for both teams in terms of health, players playing to their potential, and live chicken sacrifices.
  22. Greatest baseball player name of all time = Brooks Pounders End of thread
  23. Why not use the last 4 years
  24. If you extrapolate the Yankees 5-0 record so far in spring training through the end of the year, they're going to win at least 173 games between the regular and postseason. Simple mathematatics!
  25. If Andujar keeps mashing this spring I don't see how they can leave him off the team. I can see Andujar/Wade/Drury making the team with Toe getting sent down to AAA. 3B time split of Andujar/Drury 75/25 and 2B Drury/Wade of 50/50
