  1. He was drafted # 18 overall, but none of the scouting orgs have ever ranked him as a top 100 prospect…
  2. I’m sure they’ll make sure they can control Priester as long as possible. It might be more of an issue if Priester could force a tough decision by pitching better…
  3. They had an open roster spot. They could trade, but might not have found anyone willing. And if it’s only temporary, trades can take too long. Contract reviews. Physicals. Etc. plus teams use lots of pitchers. Most teams use 20-30 different pitchers per year. And a lot of them don’t start the year in the same organization. Would you prefer instead that the Sox bought them in bulk from Costco? Ramirez and Wingenter combined for just over 3 IP. Why are they worth this much attention from you? They were placeholders and quick fixes whose chances at sticking were directly linked to how long it took Breslow to trade for their replacements…
  4. So 30yo Brett Phillips is attempting to come back as a pitcher, and the Yankees have already signed him. But the Sox are dumpster diving by getting actual pitchers. Interesting move by Phillips. He always had a cannon for an arm. I’m surprised because these types of switches are usually done by guys who can’t get Major League jobs. Phillips was never a starter, but he didn’t seem to struggle finding teams to put him on the ML roster…
  5. I don’t know, since I don’t check the waiver wire personally. Mike Baumann might have been. He seems to go on it every couple weeks. Of course it’s not just about who else was on the waiver wire; it also matters that those players last on it until the Sox can make a claim…
  6. The difference is our SPs have a history of effectiveness at the ML level. Priester does not. If he pitches in Boston this year, it likely won’t be until September, or close to it…
  7. Hey that trade was DEVASTATING to my daughter. I thought she was going to quit watching baseball forever. I was half ass watching the game, and she came up to me upset and said “I think Morel just got traded.” No mention yet on MLBTR, but Michael Busch came up to hit for him, and they cut to the dugout and Chris was hugging everyone. The best I could say was “I hope he’s just hurt.”
  8. Not after trading Morel!!
  9. Wing enter and Ramirez were only claimed to fill some voids in the bullpen until a better pitcher could be acquired. I know the Sox disappointed you by not just going with the 6 man for a few days…
  10. Not if he stays in Chicago…
  11. I could see these being factors. Or “excuses” as Old Red calls them…
  12. Why trade Mayer at the deadline, when maybe he gets you Lucas Erceg, when you can wait until the off-season and he can headline a deal for Garret Crochet?
  13. Didn’t you also want Pedroia traded when he first came up?
  14. I’d prefer he take some steps to be ML Effective…
  15. The point is as Houck, Crawford, and, well, nearly every pitcher in MLB throws more innings, they get less and less effective, because they get tired and sore. It’s a big, big part of the reason so few teams ever repeat as WSC, something that will get even more difficult with the WC round becoming a series. Or we could go by your theory, which is that Houck’s last two starts are the reality and the previous 19 were the outliers…
  16. “I heard someone else complain so therefore it’s legitimate!!”
  17. That’s what you got out of that?
  18. That sounds remarkably ignorant. That’s like expecting Usain Bolt to win the marathon. “So what if he’s never run that far? It’s not like 200 meters is as far as he can go!” Their career highs are where they are for a reason. And minor league career highs are not equivalent. They’re not irrelevant, but they’re also not the same…
  19. And what is the difference?
  20. Or guys are rapidly approaching if not passing their career highs in IP. Cannot coach arms to not be fatigued…
  21. Apparently Breslow was supposed to call up Wikkelman Gonzalez to fill in for both Martin and Slaten and hope he pitches better on MLB than he has in the minors. Or he could have called up one of the injured Walter, Perales, Campbell or Mata. All were preferable to waiver claims. The only other option on the 40 man was Brad Keller, but he’s also a dumpster dive…
  22. I wasn’t criticizing DD. I simply said he occasionally dove into the dumpster for arms. I get he did it out of necessity. I only used him because under his regime, no one would think the Sox were small market…
  23. Well you have clearly said you don’t want them combing the waiver wire. Sometimes that’s the only other option. And sometimes it’s the best option…
  24. No, DD did what he had to in order to fill a void on his pitching staff quickly. He also dove into the San Diego dumpster to find Colten Brewer. Not sure why this exact same process is a bad comparison…
  25. So if injuries pile up, you prefer the Sox just play short-handed?
