  1. It actually goes beyond “cheap”. I’ve repeatedly highlighted a list of veteran SPs who took minor league deals, all with other teams…
  2. You keep saying “they.” The use of Criswell largely rests on the decisions made by one guy. If they keep using Criswell as a mop up reliever and let the rotation plow forward as is, that actually isn’t on Henry…
  3. Not knowing the solution isn’t the same thing as “re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.” If the pitchers are tired, more rest is good; the only question is whether or not it’s sufficient. They have Criswell to help solve/mitigate this problem. They need to use him. And if they don’t do anything but plow forward as if there is no concern, then Cora’s judgment should be seriously questioned here…
  4. “Partially sunk cost” strikes me as being akin to “partially dead” or “partially pregnant.” Certainly you have players whose contract exceeds their value, but that doesn’t mean the smart move is to abandon them and move on…
  5. They still could have added depth in other ways. Especially since they had almost nothing in the way of AAA SPs ready to step up…
  6. They need to work Criswell into the rotation. Either as a sixth starter or as the occasional replacement for Houck and Crawford…
  7. Fried is a former high school teammate of Lucas Giolito. Two years behind them on the same team was fellow free agent Jack Flaherty. Despite the connection, I have my doubts (and concerns) with Fried as a free agent…
  8. Let’s get there first…
  9. Crawford’s fastball velocity is falling but his fastball usage is rising. He’s gassed. Swap him for Criswell for a turn or two in the rotation… https://www.fangraphs.com/players/kutter-crawford/20531/pitch-velocity-graphs?position=P&pitchgraphs=true&statArr=279%2C268&legend=1%2C2%2C3&split=base&time=daily&start=2022&end=2024&rtype=mult&gt1=15&dStatArray=FA&ymin=&ymax=
  10. That’s also in the minors…
  11. Wingenter’s third team in his last 30 days…
  12. No one wanted to trade one. I just pointed out other teams traded equal prospects for minimal return at the deadline…
  13. The Sox record vs the Yankees and Phillies during this run is better than their record against the White Sox and Rockies. The White Sox are truly awful, having lost 17 in a row, and recently became the first American League team ever to have two losing streaks of 14 games or more in the same season…
  14. Answering not in green for an obvious reason, but Teel actually probably wouldn’t have gotten it done. Miami received a prospect ranked higher for Scott in Snelling, and his ranking was only a little behind Anthony’s. Now Miami may have different evaluations or might prefer getting a catcher. But going solely by BA rankings, Teel isn’t enough. My Faux Trade suggestion was chosen very specifically…
  15. Should the Sox have done something stupid? Traded Roman Anthony for maybe 15-20 IP from Tanner Scott?
  16. It’s already been costly. No one disagrees with that…
  17. I liked your 88-74 record. But I also agree it’s not going to be easy…
  18. It was really weird that the Cubs non-tendered him before the 2021 season…
  19. The bench coach/scapegoat implemented it. He was brought in due to his understanding of analytics (where he’s still apparently among the best in MLB), but Cora was the one who got the new video room set up. (In Houston, the video rooms are further from the dugout than in most other stadiums.)
  20. So two guys not in Boston? If nothing else, Valdez/Hamilton/Westbrook/Romy shows how thin that position is at the top level right now. And Yorke was a full level ahead of Mayer…
  21. Who is the competition at 2b? Especially when you keep in mind he’s a Grissom Hater, too…
  22. And Hinch was punished. But he was allegedly far from complicit…
  23. I was surprised how many Astro players were against it. According to Martino, Altuve, for example, got mad at anyone who banged the garbage can during his plate appearances. And let’s not forget the whole scandal came to light when one player blew the whistle…
  24. I interpreted that to be among the “can’t hack it in Boston” BS…
