  1. He traded Rutledge away last July. The reason he didn't just sign Rutledge is that Rutledge wasn't a free agent and was still property of the Colorado Rockies, having signed a minor league deal with them 2 weeks earlier. Now why DD didn't try to sign Rutledge before Colorado is anyone's guess. Perhaps he simply wasn't on the radar. ( And really, if he was, that's probably a bigger deal. I'm ok with Josh Rutledge being an afterthought.)
  2. Could be. But to me Tabler at best is the exception that doesn't disqualify the rule..
  3. Yes and no from me. At some point, isn't it better to look at options with some 3b experience?
  4. For a hitter, K/BB gives some indication of plate discipline. From a pitcher, it gives some indication of control. ..
  5. I I disagree that it's unfair. It's a loooooooong season. Plenty of chsnces for all. Just because a player isn't on the team in April doesn't mean he was dealt with unjustly. I know a lot of fans seem to think the 25th man was a higher priority than having proper depth. Last year I was a little disappointed to see a major leaguer have a minor tantrum over his demotion that was solely related to options. ...
  6. Kendricks stands a decent chance of being completely rocked in AAA and pitching himself out of the picture altogether. His history as a starter in the NL doesn't lend anyone to believe that a couple spring training outings have morphed him into a reliable sixth or seventh starter in the AL...
  7. Nobody is taking Hanley out Sandoval off their hands. Period. The only way Sandoval doesn't finish his deal with the Sox is if he retires from baseball early to eat full time. ...
  8. Although the Sox might have the money to resign both if Price opts out after next season. Groome pitched in high school last year. I think it might be best to at least wait until he reaches AA before he gets penciled in to replace the Cy Young caliber pitchers. ..
  9. Slightly misleading in that there were no divisions before 1969, so for the first 54 years of that streak it was pennant or nothing. What this really means is the Sox have NEVER repeated as division champs. ..
  10. Or he just doesn't want to talk about it. ..
  11. Selsky would likely be first. The only other option right now is Brentz. But if Selsky is hurt or already up, Craig is far more likely than Castillo, since Craig's AAV really isn't so bad. It's in line with other backup outfielders like Chris Young or Johnny Gomes.
  12. I actually think Craig has a better chance than Castillo, hit luxury tax hit isn't nearly as significant. And, unlike Castillo, Craig has had success at the MLB level. ..
  13. 1. If WE know about it, it already is exposed. 2. This is old news.
  14. True, but his AAV is what maters, not his salary. As he signed a 5 year $31mill, deal, his AAV is $6.2mill/ I could see him getting called up if the Sox need an outfielder/1B/RHH at some point...
  15. Selksy is 27 years old (28 in July)and has 54 MLB plate appearances in his career. I don't think he is a trade commodity and not someone we can deal if the goal is to rebuild the farm. He probably is first outfielder up since the only other minor league outfielder on the 40 man roster is Bryce Brentz. ..
  16. And Mark Prior was supposed to have such perfect mechanics that he'd have no arm troubles
  17. Exactly. The only player I have ever seen who somehow managed to excel in key situations was Pat Tabler, who, for reasons no one could ever explain, went from being an average hitter to being am elite hitter when the were bases loaded. He was so good in that one specific situation that he was occasionally brought in to pinch hit for heart of the order hitters if it was important enough.. But beyond that one freak situational skill, Tabler was nothing special. ..
  18. I don't think it was ever a question of whether or not it was Panda's job to lose. The question was whether or not he'd lose it. .
  19. If he would, definitely. There is no such thing as a bad minor league contract. ..
  20. Sale had elbow issues mid-season in his first full season as a starter and was briefly moved to the role of closer. After a couple weeks he was returned to the rotation. ..
  21. While true, the AAV of his contract is like $5.2 million. The Sox could cut Abad and make for most. But most likely, if Craig is indeed back he'll probably be dealt to a team with more salary headroom. ..
  22. He better learn fast. His inability to get the ball back to the right base quickly last year allowed the eventual winning run to get into scoring position in a playoff game ..
  23. With the Mets, wasn't that because they Wilpons lost a rather substantial amount to Bernie Madoff. I guess that would mean the bright side for the Mets was it wasn't like the team wasn't making money.
  24. And if you or any player declined, I would and do understand that position. But I can't begrudge any baseball player who wants the opportunity to play baseball...
  25. Of course there's a bigger history of tall lefties who don't. While it's not time to give up on Owens, that time does draw nearer every season. Sure at some point he might even gain an uptick in velocity. But until he shows some semblance of control, it just means he will be walking hitters with faster pitches....
