I'm not sure Bloom will ever go 'all in' to the extent that Dombrowski went. He has said time and again that his focus is on sustainability. There will be times when it makes sense to go bigger than at other times, but that doesn't mean that the other years are punt years. The expectation is still to make the playoffs.

I don't think the bullpen was an afterthought. I just think that Bloom has a different idea about building a bullpen than most posters here do.

True. It's kind of like the idea of leaving your best reliever on the bench for a save situation in the 9th inning that might never come.

I would have left Eovaldi in, but I can understand the reasoning behind taking him out. Either way, it's hard to win games when you can't score many runs. Like with last year's struggles, I'm not upset about the pitching. I'm frustrated with how out of sorts our offense looks.

At the moment, I have zero confidence in this team's ability to win a game. I have zero confidence that the offense can score more than 2 runs in a game. I'm not saying that they won't turn it around and start playing like a playoff-caliber team, but right now, they have almost nothing. It's been a tough start to the season. I'm exhausted. LOL

We need Alex Cora to rejoin the team. The Sox are lost without him.

Our pen has looked pretty good, IMO. I can't say the same about our offense. Putrid.

I heard this. I can't remember how many they said, but I think you're right that they said 17 straight. They specifically remembered counting them during the game.

Absolutely. Even though I have always felt starters are more valuable than relievers, and Whitlock looked great in his start against the Rays, it's really nice to a guy like Whitlock in the pen. I'd certainly rather have him pitch 3-4 innings to close out a game in which we have a lead then have him start a game, only to have it lost in late innings.

Your garbage offense has nothing on the Red Sox garbage offense.

The Sox would have to be blown away with a deal that they just couldn't refuse in order to trade a player like Bogaerts when they're still in contention.

If the offer that has been reported is in fact true, that might be the case. The Sox won't trade him if they are in contention though.

I have no idea where that statement was coming from. He seemed a little put off when he was asked to play 3rd base when Stephen Drew was re-signed many years ago. I get the sense that Bogaerts really doesn't want to move to another position. I can certainly understand why, but I would still prefer the team first mentality. I found it interesting a few games ago when Bogaerts was out of the line up for a regular rest day. Cora chose to put Arroyo at SS and leave Story at 2B. The announcers said that Cora did this so that Story could focus solely on playing second, rather than being moved between two positions. That is a perfectly reasonable explanation, but I wonder if part of that decision was also based on the idea of not creating any kind of controversy over who the SS is.
