  1. The Angels have lost 9 in a row and are now just 1 game over .500. The Red Sox are close. As I've said before, a lot can change in 1 or 2 weeks. Never give up.
  2. Oh, it's not happening. Not unless the Red Sox go crazy, which I can't see.
  3. Exactly. They have a tougher schedule coming up, so hopefully that will slow them down a little.
  4. In a perfect world, we'd be able to re-sign Bogaerts and Devers to reasonable deals and have most of our infield set for several years.
  5. All we can do is keep winning series. If we do that, we will be where we need to be come playoff time. Thankfully, we have a lot of season left to go. One game at a time.
  6. The Yankees have already played the Os 13 times. That's roughly 30% of their games played.
  7. Yes, it's a very small sample to this point. I am sure he is going to regress in the upcoming months.
  8. I pretty much agree with everything in this post. I think we have been on the same page here. I think Henry got a little too impatient with Ben and made a mistake in going to the other extreme with Dombrowski. JMO I have never agreed with the argument that Henry should sign a player or players at any cost because he can afford to do it. Yes, he can afford it if he really wanted to spend without limit. If I thought Henry was going to spend without limit, I'd be all for opening the checkbook for Bogaerts and Devers and any other player we wanted to keep. But the fact is that no owner is going to spend without limit. Tying up that much money in a player is going to mean that much less money to spend on the rest of the team. This becomes particularly difficult to manage when the huge contract starts going south.
  9. It's hard for me to put a definitive max on my contract offer, but I'd say at the end of this year, 8 yrs/$240M would be a max. That buys out one year of arb and extends him for 7 additional years. Even that offer makes me cringe a little, but it is what it is.
  10. OTOH, Martin Perez. Why can't we get pitchers like that?
  11. The Sox still have a lot of work to do, but what a difference a couple of weeks can make. Since May 10, the Sox are scoring 6.45 runs/game and are 8-3. This is more like the team most of us were expecting. The pen could still use some improvement, but when the offense is scoring like it should, the pen giving up 1, 2, or 3 runs usually isn't that big of a deal.
  12. I'd hate to see them go, but I strongly disagree with the idea of offering either Devers or Bogaerts more than any other team does. I am not offering Devers $300M nor am I offering him 10+ years. That kind of money tied up into one player is almost never a good idea.
  13. Up until the last 10 days or so, it's been an extremely frustrating season. Most teams go through bad spells like this (maybe not quite as bad), but the fact that the Sox did it to open the season makes it so much more glaring. The Story signing is starting to look a little better now. Either way it goes, it's obviously far too early to say whether his signing will be a good one or bad one. With Bogaerts' comments recently about the Red Sox negotiating during the season, I now have just a tiny sliver of hope that Bogaerts can be re-signed, though he won't be, nor should he be, if he is looking for $200M. Despite the terrible start to the season, Bloom is all right in my book. Stick to the plan.
  14. Have to give credit where credit is due. The Yanks are on fire. I'll bite my tongue on the rest of what I would like to post. LOL
  15. I think it's way too early. A lot can change in one week. We have almost 5 months to go.
  16. It will be all the sweeter when the Sox once again eliminate the Yankees this postseason.
  17. Probably not. But I'm not sure what your point is.
  18. I think most definitely he'd be given a shot.
  19. I don't think there are other considerations with most of the ballplayers. I think it's the most money, period.
  20. I am seriously astounded that GMs are willing to give out the types of contracts that they do. I am still in shock that the Dodgers gave Mookie that contract in the midst of a pandemic. Utterly shocked.
  21. I am disappointed in the Jays.
  22. That's because there are some unwise GMs out there.
  23. None of them deserved it either. Actually, I should probably rephrase. "Deserve" isn't the right word. He's not worth giving that kind of contract to.
  24. Yes, I'm aware of that. Reverse lock mojo in effect.
  25. Because of Boras' reputation, I guess. I liked Bogey's first deal. At the time, I posted about how much respect I had for Bogaerts for probably leaving some money on the table to stay with the Red Sox. I think he deserves a really good deal, certainly better than the reported offer the Sox gave him. But not the $200 million that he is supposedly looking for.
