  1. I think we're trying to make the same point.
  2. ^^^^
  3. I do wonder how much of a factor that is playing in the team's mindset. It's kind of interesting, though, that the two pillars are two of the very few guys who are batting well. There's a long season to go. Fractured teams often have ways of repairing themselves. The Yankees were fractured last year for most of the first half of the season then had a monster 2nd half. Don't count us out.
  4. At the moment, I could probably do a better job at batting leadoff or pitching the 9th than what we're putting out there.
  5. It starts tonight!
  6. No, they cannot keep blowing late leads. That said, once the offense comes around, maybe the relievers (and starters) will have a little more cushion to work with. Our pitchers have thrown a lot of high stress innings trying to protect 1 or 2 run leads. The pen still needs to improve, but I do think it would make a difference if the relievers didn't feel like they have to be perfect with every pitch they throw.
  7. OMG No, just no.
  8. Yes, they have the right to maximize earnings. I just wish that maximizing earning wasn't the only consideration. Some of these players come across as greedy and ego driven.
  9. I don't disagree with that, but I think there are other factors to be considered, like happiness and uprooting your family, that need to be considered. Especially when the player is going to be set for life either way.
  10. Not necessarily. I can see it to some extent, but it depends on what kind of contract the small market team offered. I just have an issue with players who simply go after the most money.
  11. Of course. I'm not blaming the terrible offense on the fact that we signed Story though.
  12. Fair or not, a player always goes down a notch on my respect scale when he hires Boras as his agent. Regardless, signing Story is not the reason this offense is as inept as it is.
  13. I have never seen an offense look so futile. I can't believe we are 2 games behind the Orioles. This is the low point. I won't permit the team to go any lower.
  14. One gripe that I have about Cora is that he will often rest multiple starting players in the same game. I understand the need to rest players, but why not rest one starter at a time? Even with that, Cora gets the benefit of the doubt. I trust him.
  15. People don't like it. Heck, I don't even like it. I would have left Wacha in the game. But the numbers don't lie. Even when a pitcher is dealing, the 3rd time through the order penalty kicks in, and things can and do turn for the worse in a hurry. I'm just glad that the pen did not blow that game.
  16. We have to take care of our own business, otherwise, it doesn't matter what any other team does. One game at a time.
  17. The transition hasn't been as smooth for Story as we would have hoped, either offensively or defensively. Baseball is such a mental game. I'm guessing Story and a lot of the other players are in their own heads right now.
  18. JBJ was the intended #9 hitter. We never really expected him to be a game changer offensively. If the rest of the lineup were hitting like they should be, JBJ's lack of hitting would be much less noticeable and would not be a problem. I understand that the bottom line is getting results. At the same time, if you're hitting the ball hard and the balls are finding gloves, there's not a whole lot that you can do about it as a hitter.
  19. Unfortunately, things like injuries and now, unvaccinated players, throw a kink into plans. I love Whitlock in the pen. I also think he can be a very good starter. Even though I think his value is as a starter, I am pretty much 50-50 on what role he should have.
  20. Jacko tends to get carried away any time the Yankees are playing well and the Sox aren't. You're never as bad as you look when things are going bad. And I'm pretty sure the Yankees won't continue to play .739 ball.
  21. The assumption, incorrect IMO, is that because the Sox are 'already' 8 games back after 3 weeks that this trend of losing ground will continue, and that by the end of June we'll be 20 games back. I see it the other way. Yes, we're already 8 games back at the end of April, but that just leaves us 5 full months to make up that ground. We don't have to make up 8 games in 3 weeks. Things will look a lot better by the end of June.
  22. The team is showing its true colors based off of 3 weeks? Even you know this offense isn't nearly as bad as it's been playing.
  23. Maybe the home stand will prove to be just what the team needs.
  24. I will grant you that the Yankees look really good right now and the Red Sox look like trash right now. Things will even out.
  25. I get it. I really do. Francona used to always say that you can't chase wins. Cora says the same thing. I believe that the current plan on using Whitlock is to have him starting games. Deciding to deviate from that plan at the last minute to win one game might cost the team 2 or more games next week. As the saying goes, you have to manage the marathon.
