  1. You said this much better than I did.
  2. I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for owners either, but it is their money and their business. In a perfect world, they would think about the fans first and lower ticket prices.
  3. Nice! I guess I will enjoy the experience vicariously through you. LOL
  4. Beer tastes like crap no matter what you drink it out of.
  5. Right or wrong, I'm sure this is a big reason why I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for the players in this fight.
  6. I really wanted to go see Elton John on his farewell tour. Until I saw how much the tickets were.
  7. The point I was trying to make is that while owners are deemed to be greedy and unwilling to cut ticket prices for fans, players would be just as greedy and unwilling to cut ticket prices for fans if it meant a salary cut for themselves.
  8. It's okay. People don't like 'positive regression' either. LOL
  9. It may not have been the best way to phrase it, but I understood and agreed with exactly what you were saying. I wouldn't have even given the phrasing a second thought if not for the subsequent posts.
  10. Any of those things are a possibility. I'm sure there were a lot of factors, possibly many of which we know nothing about, that were considered before making the trade. They have access to stats that we don't have. They have access to scouting reports and medical reports that we don't have. They have a team of great baseball people providing input on the pros and cons of this trade, along with how it impacts the rest of the moves made this season. We have no idea if this was mainly done as a precursor to some other move. It could turn out to be a great move, a terrible move, or anywhere in between. We just don't know. But without the benefit of hindsight or of knowing what else is coming once the lockout ends, I like the move.
  11. Amen to that, brother.
  12. I would really love to see both players extended. At the same time, I am probably not as willing to give as many years to either player as most fans as are willing to do.
  13. Are the players being asked to take a salary cut?
  14. I guess we'll have to wait to see how Renfroe performs this season and next. I really hated to lose him. I think that for the upcoming season, the deal will be a loss for us. But over the long term, it should end up being a plus.
  15. I think that Bloom was hired to do just this, initially, to get the Red Sox back on track. The Sox needed to scale back in order to both reset the luxury tax and to rebuild the farm system, to build sustainability, as Bloom likes to say. As I posted before, I really don't think that this is any indication that Henry will not spend this year or in the future. If Bloom sees a larger contract that fits the team, Henry will give the okay. That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with those small market moves, even for a big market team. I'm wondering how big a factor the potential extensions of Devers and Bogaerts is on the other payroll spending.
  16. For me, it's not about looking at what a particular prospect is going to amount to, but what the farm system on the whole looks like. I'm guessing that while Bloom thinks that JBJ will rebound, he was really simply buying prospects. If JBJ works out, then great. If he doesn't, the prospects were another step towards improving an already very much improved farm.
  17. I'm thinking that he'll end up being more of a 4th OFer and defensive replacement type player, rather than an everyday player. Even if JBJ ends up not playing at all, this move was about the prospects. What we get in terms of production from JBJ is gravy.
  18. Dombrowski does get some credit for helping the farm system get back on track.
  19. I seriously hope that the owners would refund the tickets if ST games are not played, or if they're played at a later date. If tickets are not refunded, then shame, shame, shame on the owners. Do I think the owners care about the fans? Probably not, though I think most care enough to put a good enough product on the field to get the fans in the seats. Do the players care about the fans any more than the owners do? The players don't control the ticket prices, but if ticket prices were directly related to their salaries, how many players would be willing to take discounts so that fans could pay less for tickets?
  20. Think of it as buying prospects. The prospects were worth the plunge, not to mention the improved defense that JBJ will provide.
  21. Happy New Year Moon and everyone! Wishing everyone a great 2022!
  22. Reason #1 why I am a huge Bloom fan.
  23. 1. I am guessing that the owners are anticipating the preseason and the season to be played. 2. Do you receive a refund for any games that are not played?
  24. I think he has the money to spend because Henry has always been willing to spend. Even in the years when the Sox were 'pinching pennies' to stay under the cap, they had one of the highest payrolls. I don't think that the lack of spending in the last two years is any indication of a new trend for the Red Sox. It was more about getting the Sox back on track for the long term. They needed to reset. The Sox may or may not exceed the luxury tax limit this year. We currently don't even know what that's going to be. But I am confident that Bloom will have the okay to go over the limit if he sees fit. Pitchers like Wacha are good value signings or good gambles to take. Their signings do not preclude the signing of other players.
  25. Exactly. We don't know what Bloom is planning to do once the lockout ends. The prospects were the key. He has already improved our farm system significantly in the short time that he's been with the team.
