  1. Good to hear, and I am in agreement.
  2. Well, the opposing catcher having 2 catcher inference calls is certainly not something I would credit to the Yankees as a skill. Besides, I wasn't even particularly referring to that. I'm talking in general.
  3. My big thing is not to spend a lot of money on relievers.
  4. Agreed.
  5. I am hoping that Cora and the team leaders are stressing the importance of not ostracizing the unvaccinated players in any way. The last thing we need is for this to become a clubhouse issue.
  6. Any player can and should be traded if the trade makes sense. At the moment, I don't see Bloom making any trades that will hurt this year's team, even for the benefit of the long term outlook, unless it's something he just can't refuse. That said, it can be argued that trading Arroyo would not hurt this year's team. But depth always has some value. I'd hate to trade him and have Refsnyder and Duran turn into pumpkins.
  7. The Yankees, as always, are very lucky.
  8. As much as it pains me to say it, I have to agree that the Yankees not only look like the best team in baseball, but they are currently the best team in baseball. I'm a big fan of run differential, and outside of the Dodgers, who are 20 runs behind the Yankees in differential, no other team comes close. The good news for non Yankees fans is that once you get to the playoffs, randomness takes over. Obviously, I'm hoping for a first round elimination for the Yankees, but I'll settle for a second round exit.
  9. Sounds like the correct way to run a baseball team.
  10. And then in the next game, Graterol got the save and Kimbrel the win for the Dodgers, and Jansen had a blown save for the Braves. Baseball is such a fickle game. The Dodgers/Braves series was a fun one to watch.
  11. Bloom is looking to add relievers. The issue is that many of the other teams are kind of stuck in limbo right now. They don't know if they want to be buyers or sellers, so Bloom is having a difficult time finding teams to trade with. He is not going to pay a fortune for them though. Regardless of what kinds of players Bloom chooses to add, he won't from the long term plan.
  12. They have done pretty well. But just like making rash decisions on a player who is not playing well, it would be unwise to make rash decisions based on players who are playing well in a small sample. I like what Duran and Refsnyder have done so far, but I wouldn't DFA or trade Arroyo based on that.
  13. 100% There are plenty of examples of players who have succeeded given the chance and plenty of examples of players who never were able to figure it out. The point is that you cannot give up on them after such a short amount of time.
  14. I don't think I was pushing for him to be re-signed, but at the same time, I'm pretty sure I wasn't pushing for him to be gone either. This is the type of signing that is right up my alley. If the Sox had re-signed Perez for this amount, I would have given it the thumbs up before knowing how he was going to pitch.
  15. As for Martin Perez, I would have re-signed him for the contract that he got.
  16. Obviously I am pulling for Wacha to continue having his good fortune, but his peripheral stats don't bode well for him. That said, batters are just not making hard contact off of him. Maybe there's something improved with his change up or it might be the way he and Vaz are mixing the pitches.
  17. Nor is Duran, and it sounds like Kike won't be ready by then. I am really not liking the tweets by the media types who are knocking Duran for 'turning his back on his team' and 'not taking advantage of this opportunity' when his career is so young. This decision has to be killing Duran. I'm sure he wants nothing more than to be able to play in Toronto. IMO, the media and the fans need to lay off.
  18. Sounds about right. Typically, the best relievers will earn a WAR value of an average position player or starter.
  19. It pains me to say the Wacha is due for some pretty good regression. Hopefully he can continue to defy the odds. Pitching was not supposed to be our strength. What we're getting from them recently is a bonus. They just need to pitch well enough to give the offense a chance.
  20. Yes I do, but not for money. Just for bragging rights, which I haven't had in more than a few years. LOL
  21. You should agree with Bell more often.
  22. I don't like that Houck isn't vaccinated and won't be able to play in Toronto. That said, I have to respect his decision. It's his choice. My only hope is that this doesn't become any kind of an issue within the clubhouse. If the Sox blow a save in the 9th inning without Houck, you know the media will be all over this. This is on Cora and the team leaders to keep this from becoming any kind of a distraction or problem. Even if there isn't a blown save, Cora needs to make sure that Houck is not shunned in any way for 'not being a team player'. Best case scenario, the Sox take an early lead each game and win every game by 5+ runs.
  23. Ha. I had to Google "Norwood Super Bowl" to know what you were talking about.
  24. Relievers are typically not worth a whole lot in terms of WAR. In addition to them not pitching as many innings, it is not as difficult to replace them. If a closer gets injured, he will likely be replaced by the 8th inning guy who is typically almost as good. The reliever that is called up from the minors does not go into the closer's role, but instead becomes the #8 reliever. Because of this, the replacement level value of relief pitchers is not as high as it is for starting pitchers or position players.
