  1. Well obviously they get a free pass through the first round. But once into the second round, I don't think they have any better a chance than the teams that had to play the first round.
  2. Haha. Well if you're going to do that, you might as well put me down for saying that Verdugo is clutch.
  3. Career numbers added in blue: Verdugo +.45, +2.13 Kike +.36, -.91 Vazquez +.32, +1.51 Franchy +.11, +.43 Devers -.05, +.77 JBJ -.40, -4.98 Story -.40, -.40 Dalbec -.42, -.36 JD -.67, -3.66 Bogaerts -.90, +1.83 As an aside, Papi's career clutch number is -3.92.
  4. Why can't they do both? It's not an either/or situation. As far as trading off the expiring contracts, the Sox are not going to trade guys like JD or Bogaerts in the middle of a playoff run unless a deal comes up that they just can't refuse.
  5. The Yankees are a really good team, but they are not unbeatable. They have been fortunate in the injury department this year, which is helping their cause. I am happy to see that we were able to hit their pitching as well as we did.
  6. I still don't think our pen is in as much disarray as most people make it out to be. Regardless, Whitlock should be a huge improvement. Maybe Ort will be an improvement also. A shoutout to the pen for 5.2 scoreless innings last night. Only 3 hits and 0 BBs given up.
  7. I swear, almost every time Bogaerts is up to bat in a key situation with men on base, if he puts the ball in play, it will be a weak grounder or pop up. I don't remember many instances in which he drives the ball with a high exit velocity, outside of the recent 2 run homerun.
  8. While I admittedly have more confidence in Verdugo to get the big hit than I do in Bogaerts and JD, the only conclusion that can be drawn, IMO, is that good hitters are good hitters regardless of the situation. There are going to be stretches, maybe even entire seasons, when someone appears to be extremely clutch or appears to be a choker, but that data does not remain consistent. Out of curiosity, I looked at the 2022 "Clutch" stat on each player, per Fangraphs: Verdugo +.45 Kike +.36 Vazquez +.32 Franchy +.11 Devers -.05 JBJ -.40 Story -.40 Dalbec -.42 JD -.67 Bogaerts -.90
  9. Exactly. If the Sox get into the playoffs (of which I am extremely confident), I like their chances as much as I like any other team's chances.
  10. My feeling is that the Yankees are good enough that they really don't have to make any moves at the deadline. Sure, there is always somewhere that they could improve, but really, how significant would that improvement be? IMO, any moves made at the deadline would be more for the mere purpose of not standing pat and sending a message to the team and the fans that the Yankees are all in,
  11. The Mariners are suddenly tied with the Jays for the 3rd WC spot. They have won 8 in a row. Surging teams: Mariners and Orioles Reeling teams: Jays and Guardians Stay tuned.
  12. And that's with the teams having to play each other so many times. I think we can confidently say that the AL East is the class of baseball this year. Even Harmony would have to agree with us.
  13. I think he is still going through somewhat of an adjustment period. He had to learn a new position along with adjusting to a new league. I think he'll be fine.
  14. Schwarber was on the IL at the time and the big "prize" during the deadline was Rizzo. Maybe he wasn't under the radar, but he also wasn't the player that Red Sox fans wanted to get.
  15. I'm not sure what to expect from Sale in his first start. I am cautiously optimistic about his return in Tampa Bay. It would be nice if Story could be a little more consistent. His K rate is up and his walk rate is down. Is this a product of adjusting to life away from Coors? Either way, his defense has been great. On the whole, I am pleased with him so far.
  16. With many teams still in the mix, it will likely be more difficult for buyers to find teams to trade with. And those that are willing to sell will likely have offers from multiple teams. I'm not sure which teams are looking for which players, but I don't see Bloom outbidding other teams in most cases. We will likely get under the radar type players that no one saw coming. Some may even call them bargain basement players.
  17. I understand the strength of the opposition. You expect that your team will not have as good a winning % against the better teams. I would chalk it up to a team never being as good or as bad as they look when things are going good or going bad.
  18. I'm not sure that I would abolish game threads. I know a lot of people really enjoy them. It's just not for me anymore, so I stay away. Simple enough. There was once a suggestion on one of the forums that we have two different game threads, one for those who like to do a lot of 'venting' and another for those who like to discuss the games in a calmer and more rational manner. It's a good idea, but I'm not sure it would work.
  19. His contract is very friendly also. I think this is the exact type of guy that Bloom is looking at.
  20. The Orioles have won 7 in a row and are currently only 2 games under .500. More importantly, they are only 3 games out of the 2nd wildcard spot. They have played .600 ball since June 1. I don't foresee them continuing to play at that pace, nor do I see them making the postseason, but you never know. Either way, with the expanded playoffs, teams like the Os and their fanbases have something to be excited about at the half way point of the season. It also adds some intrigue to the trade deadline.
  21. Again, it's because there is no urgency in getting rid of him. I suppose the Yankees are hoping that he will show some improvement in order to increase his trade value if nothing else.
  22. Unless he completely turns it around, Gallo will be replaced at some point between the deadline and the postseason, likely sooner rather than later.
  23. We watched the game. We know what's going on. What's the point of this post?
