  1. I'm not denying that we started off poorly. I'm also not denying that we beat up on weaker teams. I'm also not denying that we aren't a .769 winning team that we saw in July. Do you disagree that that the injuries have hurt this team? Do you think we'd be at least 4 games better in July if we were playing at mostly full strength?
  2. Well obviously, no other team is as great as the Yankees are. Remind me again how many titles the great Yankees have won in the past 10 seasons?
  3. The Orioles' BP consists of guys that are still all under team control, if I'm not mistaken. (Hence, the need for rebuilding the farm.) The Orioles didn't spend big on a closer. They didn't sign a "proven" closer. In fact, their primary closer is Jorge Lopez, who posted a 6.07 ERA (5.44 xERA) last season, and prior to this year, had one save. My point is that as much as people want to sign the big name closers to big contracts, that's not a good use of a team's resources, IMO. The best relievers in a season typically come out of nowhere and can be found for relatively little money. I don't think Bloom underestimates the importance of a good bullpen. He just has a different philosophy behind building one than most people do. Acquire as many arms as possible and see what sticks. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn't. But the same can be said about spending big bucks on the bullpen too.
  4. As Bell said, Bloom's philosophy takes patience. It seems like more fans prefer the 'win now' philosophy and the instant gratification of blockbuster moves. There's nothing wrong with that, but we must keep in mind that the team building approach we've seen the past 3 years is in large part due to that win now mentality from a few years ago. You can't have it both ways. Bloom is trying to establish that balance.
  5. I also find a lot of enjoyment in the so called "small market" moves. Find me those bargains!
  6. I'm a Bloom fan. I 100% agree with his philosophy. Things look terrible at the moment, but two things to remember: 1. Things looked really good last year and really good this year up until injuries derailed us. I'm not trying to use that as an excuse. It happens. That said, any team would have a difficult time overcoming the number of injuries that we've had, no matter how well the team is constructed. 2. More importantly, I'm expecting a franchise that will soon turn out contenders year after year.
  7. Supposedly JD, Vaz, and Eovaldi.
  8. He'd be dealing with Dombrowski, so it's possible.
  9. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really think that Bogaerts wants to stay in Boston.
  10. Bradley's home numbers are very decent. His road numbers are atrocious.
  11. My understanding is that Bloom is asking for major league level talent in return. Not sure exactly what that means.
  12. It will be a sad, sad day in my little corner of the world. I may even shed a tear.
  13. If Bogaerts is unhappy with the Red Sox and if he had a chance to play for a contender, I think he'd waive the no trade. By all accounts, Bogaerts really cares about this team. I think his strong preference is to stay beyond this year.
  14. I understand the reasons for bringing back JBJ, but even with the improved OF defense, and even if he did rebound to his previous offensive level, who was our 4th outfielder? JD? One injury was all it took to wreak havoc on our outfield situation.
  15. Of course moving any player depends on the return.
  16. No, the whole season can't be blamed on injuries. Much of it does have to do with strength of schedule. But if the Sox were healthy, even playing against the stronger teams, do you think they'd have a winning percentage of .269 in the month of July? That is worse than a team of replacement players would theoretically play.
  17. I agree that the reported offer to Bogaerts was weak. However, if it didn't warrant a counter offer, neither did Betts' preposterous counter to the Sox' $300M initial offer. On the subject of Bogaerts, I find it very interesting that the Sox are seemingly not going to trade Bogaerts before the season ends. This gives me some hope that they think that they can re-sign him. By all accounts, Bogaerts really does want to play his career with the Red Sox. {Fingers crossed}
  18. 1. I am a huge fan of Bloom's way of doing business. 2. I would love to have both Bogaerts and Devers back, but I have stated repeatedly that I would not pay either of them what they are asking for. IMO, both have to be willing to leave some money on the table in order to return. I know most people strongly disagree with that. 3. For any GM, I would not consider signing a superstar to the most money a feather in his cap. Seriously, I could do that. 4. No, I don't think Bloom has been given a chance yet. It's a long term plan. It takes time. 5. Ultimately, fans are attached to the team, not the individual players or the GM. I think Bloom is the right guy.
  19. You speak the truth Larry!
  20. I don't think Bloom got lulled into anything. His priority is still long term sustainability. In the meantime, he is putting together contending teams without going "all in". It worked very well last year. This year, not so much. Most of the success, or lack thereof, is related to how healthy the two teams have been. If we were playing at mostly full health, I'm willing to bet we would still be leading the wildcard race. At the very least, we'd be one of the 3 wildcard teams. I am not at all unhappy with what Bloom did this past offseason, outside of not adding another outfielder. That didn't make much sense to me.
  21. I most definitely would.
  22. Cracking me up people.
  23. I am with you about giving up Vazquez. It's a tough call for me, because 1. I'm a big Vaz fan, and 2. I'm not willing to accept the Sox punting the rest of this season. OTOH, much of our hope was/is predicated on getting our injured players back, yet there seems to be setback after setback. It's hard to win games with the team that we've had on the field. So, while I don't want to trade either JD or Vaz, I understand that it makes sense to do so.
  24. Not acquiring another outfielder, preferably a right handed one, was rather questionable to me.
  25. It might or might not make sense. All I'm saying is that it's rather quick to give up on Duran.
