  1. It's entertainment, not a Victorian morality play! You watch to see great athletes compete, at least, I do. Therefore, I feel the opposite of you. I don't give a crap about 'cheating' (all those anguished cries on a playground of 10-year-olds--ITS NOT FAIR!!!). Deliberately losing goes against the entire reason I watch sports, and when athletes or teams do that, I don't watch.
  2. Stop the madness. Stop rewarding bad teams, period. Make the draft a normal lottery and the tanking problem disappears immediately. A basic convention of sports is you try to win.
  3. I think closer to the truth is that no one remembers or really gives a cr*p what you once said or thought. Nothing personal. It's just the nature of sports boards.
  4. Please detail that strategy that has led to so many last place expensive finishes in the PRESENT.
  5. Why funny? Henry is ultimately responsible for (i.e., signing off on) gutting the RS we once enjoyed rooting for: Betts, Bogey, Nate, Vaz, Beni. Replacing them with 'bargains' (guys with legal issues, guys with injury histories). That and a series of last place finishes. Until JH comes out and shows convincingly that BLoom was defying his vision and orders, I'll continue to blame him.
  6. But that SHOULD be his agenda, no? Surely a commissioner/CEO should not have be saying: "My intent is to keep our traditions alive: no DH, no pitch-clock, no free-agency, interminable extra-inning games, no non-whites ... and if that loses money, so be it."

    Playoffs

No. I log in just fine. I just didn't know I had to scroll 'back' from (whatever?--TSoxforum) to (whatever? Gen Baseball thread?) then scroll down there for a playoff thread. (Oops! off-topic response!) I love watching A-Rod and Papi, with Jeter sitting there in embarrassed silence apparently thinking, Cr*p, even with two days growth, I'm nowhere near as amusing as these guys.

    Playoffs

Ha! It may be because if you can find that designated/official/TalkSoxApproved/MorallyUncompromised thread (it takes a while, at least for me it did), you discover that 90% of the posts on it have nothing to do with the playoffs.
  9. I thought it was a bad idea to fire someone in your organization if you had no clue as to who you would replace them with.
  10. I havent' been following this closely, but did Kim Ng decline an interview? or does she have no interest in the 'shared-power-who-the-hell-is-in-charge' atmosphere around Fenway?
  11. Ha ha! Even on the post-season thread no one gives a crap about the playoffs!
  12. Pretty high praise for Nate just offered by Papi! 'a guy you build a team around'

Thanks. (If anyone knows how to delete this thread, which I now realize is redundant, please go ahead).

    Playoffs

My bad! I looked for this, but it doesn't show up on my feed. Sorry about that. Oh well, why should I complain, since I don't even know what teams are playing.

    Playoffs

I see that the playoffs are so exciting in this new format that no one here has bothered to comment and last night's game didn't even get a headline on ESPN or Yahoo sports. Go ... (remind me who's playing?) !
  16. The silence is deafening. I thought the one-game wildcard was genius: season ends and we get to watch immediately two win-or-go-home games. Now, the season ends (and for us and most fans, our team is done for the year), and we are expected to wait a week before we get to see the best teams play? Who cares? I realize MLB loves 'more playoff games'. But after a 162 games season, most fans have had enough of watching mediocre teams. Any solutions?
  17. By looking at the evidence now available? (Unless of course you want to go the route that nothing whatsoever is certain, in which case we should probably begin discussions on whether or not you are a mass-murderer. I myself wouldn't know for sure, but I guess the fact that the issue has been brought up means that we really shouldn't be dealing with you.)
  18. He's a .230 lifetime hitter. Yup. Fits right in.
  19. Are the dimensions significantly different from what they were in Ted's day? All I remember is a minor reconfiguration of center field. Otherwise, parrk looks pretty much as it did when I first saw it. Reference sketches?
  20. Taking one for the team in game 3 and eating up innings so others could rest (and didn't he give up a scheduled start in game 4 to do it?) is what I'll remember him for.
  21. I've looked at a number of documents by MLBPA and I can find nothing on this. Where is it? (Not saying you're wrong; Doubtless most unions eel this way on some level. But where do they state this?)
  22. Where is that requirement in the CBA? section reference? Thanks.
  23. You mean he helps the defense at the plate?
  24. If they were winning, they wouldn't need rest.
  25. Totally agree. Does anyone really doubt this?
