  1. I like it. Probably in these bizarre times, we should call it a 'reverse lottery' rewarding (strange as it may sound in pro sports) success rather than failure. Yoshi is leading the team in BA, OBP, and OPS. Until that changes, there is no reason to use him as a 'spot starter' or late inning pinch hitter. Let the guy hit, and let the other guys give some clear indication that they are better.
  2. No matter how inept your base-running, you can always find a defense that is even worse.
  3. It is not entertaining. All it does is turn focus from players to individual umpires-- this isn't a damn umpire contest. That's not why we watch. Use ABS and stop the fake drama--'should wwe challenge or not?'--who gives a crap? That's not a skill anyone cares about.
  4. Anyone know why Crochet was left in last night? All I saw ws the box. Did it just happen too fast to get anyone ready? Or did Crochet himself want to try to pitch out of it?
  5. I assume this is a troll post. But of course I'd rather have Verdugo thn Betts.
  6. It's not bad luck that is responsible for this season so far!
  7. Since they correct calls and even judge umpires with ABS, just use ABS, for god's sake. It's not am umpire contest.
  8. Ohtani? Abreu? Lots of MLB players are having slow starts; lots of MLB players are not having slow starts. That's how it goes. All that's clear after 9 games is that the RS suck.
  9. Cora isn't the one swinging bats, or shipping his best players to the west coast.
  10. Well he did free up money, just as he did by giving away Mookie and Bogaerts. Now it's his.
  11. Yeah, I long for the days of Ike Delock, Don Buddin, Dick Stuart, Haywood Sullivan, and Gene Stevens. Those all-white dude teams ROCKED!
  12. Baseball is so much better and the players so much more skilled thn they were in the 50s and 60s. Maybe not to grumpy old men.
  13. Wasn't there a study done years ago showing that the notion of 'protection' was a myth, unsupported by any quantifiable evidence?
  14. Just curious--what's the thinking for not using Yoshida there? No one to cover 3rd?
  15. My favorite part was listening to some fans complaining hysterically how unfair it was since many Venezuelan players were actually American citizens. Glad I missed the pro-military part; the giant-flag, camo-wearing chauvinism of American athletes (99% of whom had 'priorities other' than actually serving in the military) is pretty revolting, and I ignore it whenever possible.
  16. That Anthony guy, he just might be . . .
  17. Dunno, Might want to check the police blotter for backup catcher. That's worked in the past (when you don't have a superstar to trade for one.)
  18. Looks loike our own Abe Toro had an unfortunate night.
  19. That is absolutely not allowed on sports-boards. Only perfectly rational, well reasoned, grammatically correct statements are permissible, all with the proper use of the subjunctive, and acute awareness of the difference between 'disinterest' and 'lack of interest', and don't get me started on 'begging the question'.
  20. Nope. Because then I would give a sh*t, and all the peace I've achieved by not giving a sh*t would be gone.
  21. What I've learned to say/think on many occasions following retirement -- something that has brought me great and unexpected peace-- "It's only a number."
  22. Fortunately, it's just an exhibition, so it doesn't matter all that much. And it's given us great games in March. I'm sorta hoping the usOa loses on this unintelligible technicality, just because of the theatrical wrath it will generate on sports media.
