  1. Such a b.s. mis-use of replay. That runner would be safe for 150 years. If you bounce in the middle of a slide and you are over the base you should be safe. No way that would be an out on the field. Replay should not be looking for things human umpires can't see or don't give a cr*p about.
  2. What was Cora so hot about? Did he think another balk should have been called?
  3. I haven't forgotten anything. I just don't see any significant difference between trading a guy away for nothing or not resigning them at market value. But apparently, some fans see a CRUCIAL difference here, such that they can claim there is no relation between Betts and Devers and Bogaerts and Nate and Chris and the Babe of course and every other guy they've managed to get rid of, and therefore there is absolutely nothing to see here. Plus, think of what we've gotten back: a pedophile photographer, a public wanker, a guy who gets pinch-hit for by a .250 hitter, plus all all all that cash.
  4. So getting Abreu for Vaz makes us forget Devers? Mookie? Xander? Nate? Sale? ...
  5. I was just going to ask that! Doesn't make me feel any better about losing RD than I did about losing Mookie. But at least the money isn't going to pay for JH's slip fees.
  6. Why doesn't MLB institute a rule that anyone not in the lineup who comes onto the field in such a 'fracas' is ejected. NFL, NBA, even NHL has this rule. And it will get rid of the silly spectacle of 'bullpens running in."
  7. How can anyone be disappointed?? It was a WILDLY successful trade-deadline. Henry just wisely pocketed the 30million/yr he saved by unloading Devers. If he'd reinvested that money in the team, how would be feed his family?
  8. Pretty clear now: the $30mill/year JHenry saved by getting rid of Devers went right into his pocket. He could have re-invested it in the team, but, you know, dockage is expensive.
  9. WOW!!! This is what 'all in' means! (I admit to momentary shock when I read that Duran was traded).
  10. And of course telling rookies to toe management line or be prepared to be traded or in their case sent down is IN NO WAY disruptive or intimidating.
  11. Getting rid of productive players and not replacing them is a GREAT idea for owners looking to save 20-30million/year. Just like the Yankees got FLEECED trading for Ruth, and then went five years without a WS championship.
  12. Punting for a draft position in MLB is about the worst possible decision and an insult to fans. The reason RS aren't as good as NY, LAD, Toronto, Phillies, Astros and a couple of other teams is that they do not spend enough on players. They could, of course; but they don't. Losing more games is not going to fix the payroll.
  13. I personally wouldn't give a cr*p or even notice.
  14. Maybe someone in the FO is saying: You know what? Sports is entertainment, and he is one of the most popular and entertaining players on the team. To which JH responds: How much money can I save getting rid of him now?
  15. WAIT! JH got 30million/year! Then had his flunkies put out a narrative (as they do whenever they get rid of a productive player or manager) trashing him which RS fans bought hook line and sinker. (I'm guessing there are at least 3 mixed metaphors there, but hey, it's early ...)
  16. Losing to get better draft picks is the worst thing to happen in pro sports and could be easily fixed, simply by using. lottery for the draft and not rewarding teams for failure.
  17. Come on! He got rid of Rafy and put 30Million annually into his pocket! That definitely helped the RedSox organization, maybe not the team, but (reading these posts) who cares about that?
  18. I think the main problem is that we fans sometimes think professional athletes should be as bad-ass tough as we are. But they're not, and sometimes we just need to drop the free weights, put the brass knuckles back in our pocket, and accept that.
  19. I believe there were studies showing that bunting was not statistically effective even as early as the 60s. It held on, I think, only because pitchers had to hit, so yes, with a guy batting .083, maybe a bunt was a reasonable option. But MONEYBALL (wasn't it Moneyball?) went so far as to claim the only thing that kept it going was the lure of the word 'sacrifice'.
  20. rafy? mookie?
