  1. Except I do not agree this is better than nothing. This just adds a layer of 'administration'; sort of like saying 'we need more doctors and nurses; let's hire an insurance company.'
  2. I realize the Robo-Ump case has been argued ad nauseum, so I will simply vent here as MLB announces the WORST solution--one that combines all the negative aspects of human umps with all the negative aspects of Roboump. Nothing like delaying things for an idiotic 'challenge', which will lead announcers to say equally idiotic things '' GREAT challenge!" or "Do you want to use your challenge now?" Who gives a crap. If you are going to judge balls and strikes electroniclly (through the challenge) and judge umpires by how well their calls reflect the electronic call, JUST GO WITH ROBO-UMPS for God's sake.
  3. I felt the same way when the RS had 2nd and 3rd and 1 out in the 10th a few nights ago. Why pitch to (who was it? Eaton? Sogard?) to ANYONE? Just walk the bases loaded setting up the force at home.
  4. Even if you hate this team, (and I sure do--the first time I find myself actively rooting against them in the last half-century--well, maybe the second time given the Valentine year), I don't see how to deny the fact that they are 14 games over .500--way more successful than many of the teams we've loved in the past.
  5. Lucky to get the K given that only one of the 5 pitches was in the zone.
  6. Come on, man. You're expecting professional athletes to be as bad-ass tough as you are. And of course, that's just not the case.
  7. would you review Ferreira's c.v. above and explain, slowly and clearly so that we understand, exactly what you see there that makes her unqualified. Because I see only one detail there that might send a certain class of fans into a tizzy.
  8. Raphaela may never see a strike again. Why throw him one?
  9. Lowe is another of those shiny objects RS GMs and fans gush over, only later to realize the team is already lousy with .220 hitters.
  10. Isn't the reason the Sox can do it on the cheap the fact that he's a .260 hitter?
  11. Umpires got it right. Wong stops and takes his mask off--he is no longer going for the ball, but trying to get back to home. So, alas, obstruction. Note that Cora did not argue it.
  12. Is this at all like the Casas injury last year? I remember his coming from a swing, but can't remember what it was.
  13. This explains (in part) why in any shot of fans, regardless of what is going on on the field, a third or so are engrossed in their cell-phones.
  14. Jesus! Since the ump themselves are graded according to how well their calls reflect whatever electronic system is used, JUST USE THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM. We don't watch baseball to determine who the best ump is.
  15. I love the in-game interviews simply because they usually go wrong. But watching Casas answer really insensitive questions with grace made me a fan. And Raphaela? Damn. Didn't seem to distract his fielding much, no?
  16. At about that age, I gave up my athletic career (which looked better on paper than on the field) as my weight got to 190. I stopped drinking and then got a job on a fishing boat. I lost 60 pounds that summer and have maintained that weight for the last 58 years.
  17. Such a b.s. mis-use of replay. That runner would be safe for 150 years. If you bounce in the middle of a slide and you are over the base you should be safe. No way that would be an out on the field. Replay should not be looking for things human umpires can't see or don't give a cr*p about.
  18. What was Cora so hot about? Did he think another balk should have been called?
  19. I haven't forgotten anything. I just don't see any significant difference between trading a guy away for nothing or not resigning them at market value. But apparently, some fans see a CRUCIAL difference here, such that they can claim there is no relation between Betts and Devers and Bogaerts and Nate and Chris and the Babe of course and every other guy they've managed to get rid of, and therefore there is absolutely nothing to see here. Plus, think of what we've gotten back: a pedophile photographer, a public wanker, a guy who gets pinch-hit for by a .250 hitter, plus all all all that cash.
  20. So getting Abreu for Vaz makes us forget Devers? Mookie? Xander? Nate? Sale? ...
  21. I was just going to ask that! Doesn't make me feel any better about losing RD than I did about losing Mookie. But at least the money isn't going to pay for JH's slip fees.
  22. Why doesn't MLB institute a rule that anyone not in the lineup who comes onto the field in such a 'fracas' is ejected. NFL, NBA, even NHL has this rule. And it will get rid of the silly spectacle of 'bullpens running in."
