  1. How can anyone be disappointed?? It was a WILDLY successful trade-deadline. Henry just wisely pocketed the 30million/yr he saved by unloading Devers. If he'd reinvested that money in the team, how would be feed his family?
  2. Pretty clear now: the $30mill/year JHenry saved by getting rid of Devers went right into his pocket. He could have re-invested it in the team, but, you know, dockage is expensive.
  3. WOW!!! This is what 'all in' means! (I admit to momentary shock when I read that Duran was traded).
  4. And of course telling rookies to toe management line or be prepared to be traded or in their case sent down is IN NO WAY disruptive or intimidating.
  5. Getting rid of productive players and not replacing them is a GREAT idea for owners looking to save 20-30million/year. Just like the Yankees got FLEECED trading for Ruth, and then went five years without a WS championship.
  6. Punting for a draft position in MLB is about the worst possible decision and an insult to fans. The reason RS aren't as good as NY, LAD, Toronto, Phillies, Astros and a couple of other teams is that they do not spend enough on players. They could, of course; but they don't. Losing more games is not going to fix the payroll.
  7. I personally wouldn't give a cr*p or even notice.
  8. Maybe someone in the FO is saying: You know what? Sports is entertainment, and he is one of the most popular and entertaining players on the team. To which JH responds: How much money can I save getting rid of him now?
  9. WAIT! JH got 30million/year! Then had his flunkies put out a narrative (as they do whenever they get rid of a productive player or manager) trashing him which RS fans bought hook line and sinker. (I'm guessing there are at least 3 mixed metaphors there, but hey, it's early ...)
  10. Losing to get better draft picks is the worst thing to happen in pro sports and could be easily fixed, simply by using. lottery for the draft and not rewarding teams for failure.
  11. Come on! He got rid of Rafy and put 30Million annually into his pocket! That definitely helped the RedSox organization, maybe not the team, but (reading these posts) who cares about that?
  12. I think the main problem is that we fans sometimes think professional athletes should be as bad-ass tough as we are. But they're not, and sometimes we just need to drop the free weights, put the brass knuckles back in our pocket, and accept that.
  13. I believe there were studies showing that bunting was not statistically effective even as early as the 60s. It held on, I think, only because pitchers had to hit, so yes, with a guy batting .083, maybe a bunt was a reasonable option. But MONEYBALL (wasn't it Moneyball?) went so far as to claim the only thing that kept it going was the lure of the word 'sacrifice'.
  14. rafy? mookie?
  15. Loserdo is going to be thinking about that foul ball for a long time, poor guy.
  16. Besides, you don't want to squander all those millions you made getting rid of Devers. (Damn, G. is leaving a lot of pitches on a tee.)
  17. As is the case with most Yale folks, the concern is not what they know, but rather what they do.
  18. Ha ha! Actually, I wouldn't give myself that credit, since I haven't even gotten to the level where I understand what anyone is arguing for.
  19. Since Breslow had just proven he was willing to let anyone go, why would any RS player speak up against this move? The 'bad team-mate' narrative manufactured by RS front office is not supportted by any current player, and flat-out contradicted by those (e.g., Bregman) who have spoken out. Meanwhile, JH just picked up 30million/year, so I guess 'true fans' are required to celebrate that,
  20. I love the way all these terms blur together and shape-shift as accusations of moral impropriety soar-- error (the physical action on a field vs. the physical act of deciding what to call it), stat, fact (same confusion),,, I used to make a very amusing living dealing with the logical shenanigans in such discussions. But I'm retired. So have at it.
  21. Just keep drinking that management Kool-Aid. No need for actual evidence supporting this (of which there is none), and no need to pay any attention to evidence that contradicts it (e.g., statements by Bregman).
  22. No one ever attended or turned on a MLB game in order to watch a middle reliever.
