  1. I thought he came back to the Sox about that original offer and Bloom told him it was now off the table. I will refrain from judging which one was the dumbass.
  2. OK, my bold prediction is that Pivetta does not top $50 million.
  3. But why exactly? Wacha got $50 million and his WAR is 40% better than Pivetta's over the last 3 years.
  4. I'm certainly in. No idea what he's going to command on the market or who else would be in on him, though.
  5. Sasaki is already as good as a Dodger according to most observers. And that's perfectly logical. Why would he want to go anywhere else?
  6. Agreed, but there doesn't seem to be any blueprint for how that could actually happen. Ceddanne's last walk was on August 9. He finished the season on a 39 game (all starts) walkless streak. mvp has talked about how they've tried to change his approach in the past and it has sort of backfired. Unfortunately I'm very pessimistic about his future as a hitter. It's unprecedented for anyone to survive a lack of discipline anywhere near as bad as this.
  7. Last year was mostly a sham, of course. They talked big and then cut the budget. Brez was probably a bit frustrated would be my guess. Even if you like Giolito a lot, the contract they gave him with an opt-out after one year was sham all the way.
  8. That's the 'snakebit' feeling.
  9. Yeah, it's all rather an academic discussion. It's up to Brez and Bailey what they think of him. Hopefully Henry really will let Brez make the decisions he wants to.
  10. There are bold predictions and there are Wild Ass Pollyanna predictions.
  11. I think Buehler has considerably more upside than that triumvirate you mentioned.
  12. Yoshida has a total fWAR of 1.4 in 2 seasons - about 1.5 seasons games played wise. Even an fWAR of 1.5 looks like wishcasting at this point.
  13. 2022-2024 averages: Pivetta 156 IP 2.2 bWAR 1.8 fWAR Wacha 143 IP 3.1 bWAR 2.5 fWAR Pivetta has delivered about 10% more innings. Wacha has delivered about 40% more value.
  14. OK I mis-read your post a little the first time.
  15. Abreu is getting traded. That's as close as I'll come to a "bold prediction". 🙂
  16. Sorry but I don't really understand what you're saying.
  17. Wacha got 3 years and $50 mill guaranteed. Not sure Pivetta would get any more than that, in fact I'm not sure why he would even get that much.
  18. Pretty sure they were trading Betts regardless. The Price half dump was just part of the return.
  19. Yeah, I think they're meeting with him essentially for PR purposes. They want us to know they're doing their due diligence and they are "always open to any possibility to improve".
  20. We had one of those, but John Henry obviously doesn't buy into the concept!
  21. I probably shouldn't have spoken for him on Fried.
  22. Jon Heyman says we're in the mix! 😉 https://nypost.com/2024/11/11/sports/blue-jays-could-play-spoiler-in-yankees-mets-juan-soto-sweepstakes/ Heyman of course is alleged to be close with Boras and has been suspected of planting stuff that might help his friend. I think that's probably true.
  23. When the Padres traded Soto the Yankees they got back pitching - King and Thorpe. We got zero pitching. At the time I thought Bloom had done his best, but in retrospect it was just a terrible job they did. And I have what I think is a satisfactory explanation (for myself at least LOL) for why the Betts trade happened so late. I think they delayed it because they didn't want to turn off season ticket buyers. I distinctly remember 700hitter being irate when the Betts trade rumors first started and basically accusing Bloom of lying about his intentions with Betts.
  24. I thought Verdugo was the centerpiece, and Wong and Downs only came into it after Bloom decided against Graterol because of his medicals.
  25. moon is just tired of injury-prone pitchers. It's got nothing to do with Snell's talent. Rather have Burnes or Fried who have proven to be more durable.
