  1. Stork doesn't even qualify as an unreliable source.
  2. *In theory* it could be the team offering 11 guaranteed years + 2 team option years and the player insisting on 13 guaranteed years.
  3. Maybe it's actually about options for Juan to buy a chunk of Fenway Sports Group? Yeah, that's the ticket...
  4. The real weirdness is what happened with the Boras Four last year.
  5. We're all just guessing, of course, about what will happen if it turns into an all-out bidding war. Cohen scares me to death if that's what it comes down to. He seems the type who would literally throw "eff you" money at this. I think we really need Soto to prefer to play in Boston.
  6. I think the big difference is that Cohen owns the Mets 100%. He can do whatever he wants without answering to anyone. Henry is only the biggest shareholder of Fenway Sports Group. There are a large number of shareholders involved.
  7. I think if Juan Soto is looking at this strictly as an EBay auction it'll be the Mets. Very difficult for the Sox to outbid Steve Cohen when he's the sole owner of the team and he's worth over $20 billion.
  8. If you believe that, you must also believe that it's strictly baseball reasons that no one will touch Bauer, I assume.
  9. C'mon harms. Boston fans pine for pitching, that's all. And Seattle fans probably wouldn't object to getting one of the Sox big 4 prospects, I don't think.
  10. Sorry moon, I accidentally removed the last part of your post. I can't answer that question about Dermody. But we live in a hyper-sensitive environment now. The Duran incident did in fact turn into a pretty big deal, and I think if there's a repeat occurrence it could put the Sox in a very uncomfortable position.
  11. You'll have to ask Stan Kasten about that... Since this is all wild-ass speculation, I think it's possible some Dodger players might have liked Bauer but still voted for releasing him because of the distraction factors and even maybe on moral grounds...
  12. Mookie Betts actually likes Bauer a lot... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/dodgers-mookie-betts-hopes-trevor-bauer-makes-mlb-return-says-ex-teammate-is-awesome-guy/
  13. The Boston media would do their best to make it matter.
  14. Players often rent apartments during the season. Of course with a big star on a long term deal it might just be a temporary arrangement prior to buying a house.
  15. Well, the Dodgers did guarantee him 102 million in his last deal, with 2 opt-outs... Just gonna have to agree to disagree. I think it's pretty damn odd that not one team has given him a shot under the low-commitment terms he's proposed...
  16. I would do it, I just don't think the Red Sox would. Truth be told, I suspect that the teams have a covert agreement in place that no one will touch him. Because in baseball terms it makes no sense that no one would give him a shot last year.
  17. OK, well you really believe in the long layoff factor, as you're entitled to. Personally I think in one of one moon's alternate universes where Bauer has a clean slate, teams would absolutely be giving him a shot. He pitched extremely well in both 2020 and 2021. He'll be 34 at the start of the 2025 season.
  18. At the moment it's this or debating the merits of signing Trevor Bauer. The guys who say the MLB free agent season is an absurdly dragged out and excruciatingly frustrating process to follow have it right, I'd say.
  19. I thought it was a pretty simple question. And if I haven't made myself clear enough about the baggage by now, I don't see much point spending any more time on it...
  20. Gun to my head, I actually think I'd answer yes to whether Soto is coming to Boston or not. I just have a feeling about it now, and the Dominican fraternity is part of that feeling. But I'm absolutely prepared for it to go the other way too.
  21. Are you saying that, setting the baggage aside, you wouldn't even bother giving him a shot no matter how low the cost?
  22. Certainly there's a substantial risk he has nothing left. But given his pedigree, if he didn't have the baggage he would be a low-cost flier. It's pretty obvious that's not the reason no MLB teams are interested, regardless how minimal the cost.
