  1. Keep in mind that the Dodgers released Bauer just weeks after he was reinstated by MLB and was free and clear to rejoin the team. According to what they said publicly, the process they went through before making that decision included polling the players. They described it as a unanimous decision.
  2. Valdez seems thoroughly incapable of hitting lefties.
  3. And if Hader was playing for Boston it might have been a different story. Duran's incident might be a relevant comp. He seems to have survived it, but I would submit that if there's a repeat occurrence it could result in them having to move him.
  4. With Bauer, the risk of unwanted distractions hanging over the team can't even be computed.
  5. No. As I keep pointing out, the Sox had a PR disaster from using Matt Dermody for 1 game in 2023. I think Chaim Bloom was thoroughly shocked, flustered and embarrassed by the firestorm Dermody created. Bauer's only shot is with a low-profile team that's not under the media microscope like Boston, where if he pitched well and behaved he might refurbish his image. But it looks like not even those teams are interested.
  6. Well, in general terms you may have a point. I guess I'm looking at it specifically from the point of view of the Red Sox having Yoshida. The only way this guy can have any possible value is as a full time DH. If he can't hit lefties and has to be platooned, he's a severe impediment to in-game roster flexibility. He could theoretically grab a glove and play OF, but it seems like the team wants no part of that. So if he can't hit lefties, he's simply a liability.
  7. Steve Cohen would have a good laugh at the idea that would be enough difference to knock him out of the bidding.
  8. If it just comes down to an EBay auction, I think the Sox drop out, and probably with good reason. I think they're hoping the Dominican Connection and the other place of play factors give them an edge.
  9. I don't think a full-time platoon DH is feasible. Especially with starting pitchers going so much shorter in games and openers and bullpen games. Out of 4-5 ABs you'll often be facing 3-4 different pitchers. More than ever you need a DH that can hit both lefties and righties.
  10. A classic Catch-22! Maybe Andrew Bailey knows Walker and invites him for a private session because he wants to help...
  11. Well, there's plenty of buzz out there that the Sox are very serious here, and the "Dominican Connection" thing is real, so there's reason to get hopes up. But nobody ever said beating the 2 NY teams in a financial cage match was going to be easy...
  12. Slaten perhaps. The other 3 can only reasonably be projected as average MLB pitchers, and that might even be a best case scenario. We can't just go on their good stretches.
  13. Yoshida and Walker contracts are both deep underwater. You're basically exchanging trash and hoping the new trash yields a bit more than the former trash. The thing about Yoshida is he seems to be a roster clog. Can't keep him, move Devers to first and Casas to DH while he's here. Breslow says he's not looking to trade Casas. Something has to give.
  14. Maybe Boras is screwing up again like he did last year and Soto is gonna get stiffed! OK, probably not...
  15. Yeah, what I was really questioning was how he can show signs before we trade for him... Not sure you can get prospective trade targets to throw side sessions for you... I think moon just likes to fiddle with the logic center in my brain...
  16. Hard to say. If the Yankees sign Soto and there are indications the Sox had a chance with one last bump but declined (think A-Rod situation), there could still be much grumbling.
  17. Yes, but I'd say you actually have a bit more to grab onto with "clutch" than with the other phantoms...
  18. How's he going to show signs he can rebound?
  19. So do "core", as we've seen today, and oh yeah, "ace". That's the beauty of these infinitely nebulous terms...
  20. If that's very far apart, it's time to move on. I thought Soto was looking for 12/14 years at $45 million.
  21. It makes more sense than the idea of the Yankees having Soto, one of the best hitters in the game, helping us.
  22. moon's list looks a lot like 'everyone we expect to be back if they're not traded'. 😁
  23. So a lot of guys moon listed are not core. I think we can get a few more posts out of this!
