  1. No Tanner Scott?
  2. I just think we have to take a serious look at why Lawson got fired. Plenty of managers and coaches get fired and then succeed elsewhere, I realize. But I can't help being curious what it is about Lawson's approach the Yankees decided wasn't working, and what it is the Red Sox think will work for us.
  3. Hate to say it, but the Yankees' offensive approach seemed to get better this year while the Red Sox seemed to get worse.
  4. Yeah, I'm gonna have to say Randy took it to the next level of complaint here. If the Sox do somehow sign Soto it means they're goin' for it, which is what we want. I trust that if they're committed enough to make this happen, they're committed enough to improve the pitching too.
  5. I do now suspect it will be similar to the Yamamoto case, where the player ultimately gets to pick which one of the high roller teams he wants to play for, with the astronomical amount of the contract obviously a given.
  6. Soto and Manny are a pretty cool comp. Career OPS/OPS+ Juan Soto .953/160 Manny Ramirez .996/154 As we can see Manny benefited a bit more than Soto from the period he played in and the parks he played in.
  7. Except we're looking for a word for "side thrown from".
  8. That's what we said last year about Yamamoto. I think Boras may have said it to Snell and Montgomery.
  9. And yet everyone seems to understand the word "ambidextrous". 🙂
  10. There has to be a better word than handedness. There just does.
  11. "Going all out" is a promising contender for this year's "full throttle".
  12. I thought he came back to the Sox about that original offer and Bloom told him it was now off the table. I will refrain from judging which one was the dumbass.
  13. OK, my bold prediction is that Pivetta does not top $50 million.
  14. But why exactly? Wacha got $50 million and his WAR is 40% better than Pivetta's over the last 3 years.
  15. I'm certainly in. No idea what he's going to command on the market or who else would be in on him, though.
  16. Sasaki is already as good as a Dodger according to most observers. And that's perfectly logical. Why would he want to go anywhere else?
  17. Agreed, but there doesn't seem to be any blueprint for how that could actually happen. Ceddanne's last walk was on August 9. He finished the season on a 39 game (all starts) walkless streak. mvp has talked about how they've tried to change his approach in the past and it has sort of backfired. Unfortunately I'm very pessimistic about his future as a hitter. It's unprecedented for anyone to survive a lack of discipline anywhere near as bad as this.
  18. Last year was mostly a sham, of course. They talked big and then cut the budget. Brez was probably a bit frustrated would be my guess. Even if you like Giolito a lot, the contract they gave him with an opt-out after one year was sham all the way.
  19. That's the 'snakebit' feeling.
  20. Yeah, it's all rather an academic discussion. It's up to Brez and Bailey what they think of him. Hopefully Henry really will let Brez make the decisions he wants to.
  21. There are bold predictions and there are Wild Ass Pollyanna predictions.
  22. I think Buehler has considerably more upside than that triumvirate you mentioned.
  23. Yoshida has a total fWAR of 1.4 in 2 seasons - about 1.5 seasons games played wise. Even an fWAR of 1.5 looks like wishcasting at this point.
