  1. Oh sure, Mookie might be able to handle a switch to second. But that's only a small part of it. You're talking about making radical changes with 2 MVP candidates when the team is playing .700 ball. You're talking about downgrading the outfield defense, increasing the chances of JDM getting injured, and probably increasing the chances of Mookie getting injured as well. That's out of the box thinking gone too far.
  2. If you keep making mad dashes across the interstate your chances of becoming roadkill are pretty good too.
  3. Swihart playing a few games at 3B is considerably less crazy than moving Mookie to 2B and JD to everyday OF.
  4. Nice debut indeed.
  5. His stats are pretty good, that's all. No one is saying he's the second coming of prime Koji. But he doesn't deserve the abuse he takes either.
  6. Here's a stat nugget you might find interesting, Larry: Rays pitchers home ERA 2.95 Rays pitchers road ERA 4.66 !!!!! Red Sox pitchers home ERA 3.76 Red Sox pitchers road ERA 3.34 !!!!! So are Rays pitchers actually good or are their numbers simply distorted from pitching in the most run-suppressing park in baseball half the time? Worth looking into!
  7. Should have signed Addison Reed for 16.75 million!!! Priceless!!!
  8. Last 25 games - .929 OPS and 23 RBI
  9. Beeks had a horrific debut for the Rays.
  10. He's sort of an easy target, I guess, because of the hair, the perceived attitude issues, and the failures of his teams to get past the LDS. Plus he's hitting .219 in his contract year.
  11. The next team that gets Harper should hire Papelbon as Bryce's personal motivational coach.
  12. Yeah, goddamn the little leprechaun and his 32 saves out of 35 chances. Can't wait till next year when he's gone and we have a new closer to crap on every time they fail!
  13. I suspected Moreland was not 100%.
  14. Excellent analysis Flap.
  15. This is pretty much my position too.
  16. His name shouldn't even come up in connection with the Red Sox.
  17. Johnson threw 84 pitches, which is tied for the most he's thrown all year. They don't want to overextend him. If he keeps pitching this well they'll probably increase his pitch count.
  18. Yeah, I just don't get why some people are so anxious to crucify the manager. But then again when I first started posting on a Sox message board in 2007 the thing I didn't get was how many people were crushing Francona. And that was in a season in which the Sox won their second ring in four years under him.
  19. Thanks Youk, for continuing to be a voice of reason.
  20. This is just going to start up the same old cycle, but the fact that the farm system is toast is on Ben too IMO. He left Dombrowski with a well-stocked farm but virtually zero pitching. DD probably overdid it with what he gave up for pitching but I'd like to know how he could have magically conjured up a good pitching staff without making a bunch of trades.
  21. To me that little contingency is kind of dwarfed by the impact of them getting one of the best starters in the game for the next 2.35 seasons.
  22. The Yanks needed a starter regardless.
  23. You really are a long-viewer if you would have preferred they get deGrom.
