    I was also probably one of the few people who thought the Paps-Harper thing was funny as heck.

    I was bored enough to watch the MLB Network doc about the 1988 Dodgers. The one thing that was interesting was the crucial detail about the famous Gibson HR off Eck. Gibson had studied the scouting report on Eck, and what really stuck in his head was the note that on 3-2 counts to lefthanded hitters Eck loves to throw the backdoor slider. Gibson was looking for it and he got it.

    I love it when guys who participate in the Home Run Derby go into big slumps after the ASB. I love it when guys skip the Home Run Derby because they're worried it will mess up their swings. I guess I'm a sick person.

    But if Martinez has the traits of a really good hitting coach, helping other hitters with their mechanics, their approach, pointing out things about opposing pitchers, that's not magical/speaking in tongues stuff.

    Bogaerts has a 3.2 fWAR in 79 games. If you project that to 150 games it's 6.1. He is playing at a 6 WAR level. How much precision are you looking for?

    But if you subscribe to the belief that the Wild Card games are not playoffs but 'play-ins', it's a whole different story. Our % for winning the division right now is only about 65%. Having to play a Wild Card Game, a coin flip, cuts your chances in half.

    No AL East CFers are really killing it so far this year. Hicks has been pretty good.

    That's not really fair to E-Rod in this case. His ankle got twisted pretty badly. Could have happened to anyone.

    One thing's for sure, DD has his hands full trying to plug the holes in the pitching staff with the limited trade chips at his disposal. Are there any 'pure' salary dumps in the pitching area out there?

    I really think what Ben is judged most harshly on is simply the last-place finishes. Theo had some bad moves but his overall results were basically unassailable.
