  1. This was in the first Yankees series when Holt got spiked and Kelly retaliated. PA wrote about how much better the Sox handled things this time around. I'm not sure if this particular statement came in an article or in a tweet.
  2. Fair enough, but go ahead and expand the 2015 staff's numbers to their career numbers and it doesn't change much.
  3. Look at their 2015 numbers and health status, please. That's what DD was looking at.
  4. Well, I'm not going for the 'outside of Sale' thing. Nice try though. Sale Pomeranz Kimbrel Thornburg C Smith Right now at least 2 out of 5 of those moves look bad, of course. But that's not really the point. The point is that the pitching staff was in tatters and absolutely necessitated acquisitions by trade or by free agency for the team to contend for the division.
  5. Farrell was kind of an inscrutable, lantern-jawed sphinx. The way he 'handled' the Pedroia/Machado and Price/Eckersley episodes reflected badly on his management skills and had a lot to do with his demise, I think. FWIW I don't know if anyone else read this, but Pete Abraham reported that one of those 'highly placed sources' told him he witnessed Farrell and DD having quite a heated shouting match about the Pedroia/Machado thing. That's never good for your job security. Anyway I think kudos are due to DD for the Cora hiring. He got the right guy and he did it in a quick and decisive fashion.
  6. The question nobody who accuses DD of decimating the farm system can really answer is how else he was supposed to assemble a good pitching staff from what he was left with.
  7. Nothing to write home about, but a pretty respectable performance for a guy making his ML debut in Fenway in very adverse circumstances.
  8. Oh I know, it's shudder-worthy for sure. But Zack Greinke is the current AAV bar-holder at very close to 35 million.
  9. As much as we all love him, this is very true.
  10. Midas was actually kind of a loser.
  11. Yeah, it's kind of an all-time feat of deadline magic so far.
  12. Craig has a problem with the number 4. Whether it's 4-out saves or 4-run leads. Something about that number messes up his head.
  13. I figure if it could be done that easily, someone would have done it already. It's pretty blatant what the intent is, you have to admit.
  14. I can't see MLB allowing it. It's blatant AAV manipulation on a pretty big scale.
  15. Well, there's Stanton's contract - 13 years, 325 million, 25 million AAV, opt-out after year 5 (I think).
  16. Yeah, a lot of Yankee fans were going WTF about those comments by Boone.
  17. You're just being a troublemaker.
  18. 8 years, 280 million, AAV of 35 million would seem to be in the ballpark.
  19. The Yankees seem to like guys with the names Chance, Chase and Chasen.
  20. It's true that 10 year deals have generally proven to be disasters. I wonder if we will see any more of them. Supposedly math geeks have taken over MLB FO's, so we shall see.
  21. I want to see Aaron Boone in the fetal position with his thumb in his mouth by the end of this series.
  22. Man are you serious? He has made some incredible catches this year. There's a little more to it than 'slightly better jumps'.
  23. How did they mess up his hammy in a few days, is the question.
