In the RSN, the sky is always falling.

You got that right.

I was also concerned due to the 2 young starters already over projected IP'd totals and Suarez & Gray looking shaky or missing a start.

There is some truth to the saying that a SP'er is only as good as his last start, but it's not always true.

ER totals for the 5 games before these last 3:

16

8

9

7

5

All ten O's batters K'd.

While we K'd 11 times, we also drew 5 BBs. That helped outweigh being outhit 5-4.

We blinded them with pitching. Thomas Dolby will probably sue me.

Those are "sky falling" numbers.

Indeed. There was strong reason for concern, but these 4 have been solid all years:

Gray 2.69 ERA (11th best among pitchers with 99+IP)

Suarez 3.44 (35th)

Tolle 3.15 (23rd)

Bennett 3.34 (29th)

4 pitchers in the top 35 in MLB! (Early is tied with Suarez!)

Rays are losing a close game in the 7th. The Yanks are down 3-0 in the 4th.

There is still some hope we can catch the Yanks.

The Rays would have to collapse to catch them.

There is always something to worry about.  But every team has something to worry about.

The Sox medical staff can't seem to keep players healthy. Lineups are so depleted, yet we won 4 in a row.

Considering the fragility of this team, the size of the Sox medical staff should be the size of a full MASH unit.

I know that they are legit banged up a bit, but I am also wondering if they'd be on the IL if we were tied with the NYY for the 1st WC slot, or tied with TO for the last WC slot.

The injury issue is crazy, but it has brought to the forefront how amazing our bench has been, especially at middle infield, LF and pitching.

Duran .614 (team LF OPS .656, which includes Duran's numbers)

Story .698 (team SS OPS .664, including Story & Mayer)

Mayer .594 (Team 2B OPS .705, including Mayer)

SP: Crochet 6.30, Bello 10.35, Houck, Crawford & Oviedo 0 IP

3.15 Tolle

3.34 Bennett

3.44 Early

4.41 Sandoval

Of the 9 closers who have 400 or more saves, 6 of them at one time or another have closed for the Sox.

We've had some great ones!

I see 5 of top 10. (Jansen, Smith, Kimbrel, Wagner & Chapman)

Eck is #11 at 390.

Papelbon is #12 at 368

Reardon is #13 at 367

That's 8 out of top 13.

I wish someone would shove a dirty sock in Palmer's mouth.

He didn't do it so much in this series but I have seen him a lot over the years and the one thing that has always driven me nuts is with most every hard hit ball he always blames it on a poor pitch.  Even when it's a cutter on the black.  Some times major league hitters hit really good pitches too but not to Jim, it's always the pitcher's fault.

He actually gave the Sox a lot of love this series. That's not always been the case.

Only 5 (Jansen, Kimbrel, Smith, Wagner, Chapman).   Mariano, Hoffman, KRod and John Franco have not.  Now if Eckersley makes a comeback and gets those last 10 saves…

8 of 13 is pretty impressive.

What a train wreck the Orioles are.  Reading the University of Maryland board those fans sound like, well, us in June.

The difference is that some of our fans sounded like that in 2007, 2013 & 2018.

That said, this has been a disappointing few seasons for them.  They had so many highly-rated hitters moving thru their system.

The Wagner trade was one of my favorites of all time.  Even without the good results, we traded a quad-A player for a Type-A FA.  We didn't get that much out of the picks.  But it is almost like the Mets GM forgot about the FA compensation.

Yes!

We have done great with many of the comp picks, but the 20th (Vitek) and 39 (Ranaudo) did not materialize.

We did trade Ranaudo for Robbie Ross, who gave us two nice seasons ('15-'16) :

116 IP

106 Hits + 43 BB (not good)

109 Ks

3.67 ERA (123 ERA+)

1.5 bWAR and 0.9 fWAR
