What's weird is that Abreu sucked hard all night (4 Ks) and essentially came close to grounding into a game ending double play and instead it's a walk off fielders choice (great hussle and slide by White) and it's Abreu who gets mobbed.  They should have mobbed Eldridge (who should have stepped on the bag and thrown to short for the tag out).

You're assuming the baserunner slides into 2nd.  All he has to do is to stop between the bases and there is no chance to tag him before the run scores.

I'd also add that Abreu scorched the ball.  That's all you can do.

Not to mention the 1B had to dive for the ball.  A good throw gets White but that’s it. Rafaela is fast and wasn’t being held on; there’s no way the fielder gets up, steps on first and then gets the throw to second in time for a tag before White scores.  He would have barely gotten Eli at the plate with a good throw (though a 1-2-3 DP may have been possible).

but Eli pinch hit for Mickey Cochrane Gasper and singled in the first run.

Gaspar has a 1.464 OPS since his return.  To PH for him in that situation, and to be right, is just slightly short of inspired.

I think the 1B made the right decision. The throw was just a little off.

Tracy's in-game managing seems rock solid to me.  There has been a virtual absence of beeching about him.

Tracy made the right moves in the fateful final frame, but just look at his hungry gamers:

Durbin Legend walked to start the rally. Jahmai pinch hit for Duran and got hit by a pitch. Mona hit into a force out, but Eli pinch hit for Mickey Cochrane Gasper and singled in the first run.

Then Sogard, who made a game-saving catch in the top, comes through again with a double to tie it. After Ceddanne is intentionally walked, Abreu - 4-for-4 in Ks - made contact!

Wyatt Olds got his first big league win. He is undefeated with a 0.00 ERA in his career.

Wyatt has some good stuff. I’ve been impressed.

Gaspar doesn’t hit LHP well though. Makes sense and Eli white is a really good LHP PH. Plus absolutely flies on the bases. I wouldn’t have second-guess that decision if it didn’t work out.

No force at second ; run would have scored, no?

There were bases loaded, so yes, a force was at 2B, but no way they'd turn a DP on that play.

The OP (DejaDoh) said the 1B should have  tried a reverse force DP, which would have required a tag at second.  No way was there time for that before White would have scored.

I don't think they could've done it, but could he have gone for the traditional DP by throwing to 2nd first?  Abreu got a pretty good break out of the box.

I doubt it due to having to dive to just stop the ball.  He made the right play trying for the force at home; his throw was a little off.

Thanks for clarifying. Correct on all fronts.
