Breslow doesn't talk to me, so I don't know what his Plan A will be.

He doesn’t talk to other people either, but they seemed to know what this past offseason’s plan was.

You’re just jealous that you’re not part of a championship bowling team that you helped name.🤔

Read that back to yourself slowly, and let me know if you can see any inconsistencies.

Moon-you have your own bowling team?

I know what you’re getting at, so let me say this about that. I don’t believe Brez told any fan, or any sports writer that bringing Bregman back was the top priority, plan A, or whatever else you want to call it, but yet pretty much everyone knew, assumed, or anything else you want to call it that it was. Then we get to Alonso, and 1B in general. If you, and a few others want to think Brez offered him a contract first, which was reported, and he wasn’t their ist choice, priority, or plan A you can keep speculating that too, but I don’t, and I won’t. MVP laid out the facts, and time line as has been reported, and unless you can add, or dispute any of those you’re just speculating. On the other hand I’m going on what has been reported. Big difference.

Well, they're half right.

Good, that's all I'm saying.  No one knew what his Plan A was, and then they made assumptions based on, my guess, what the writer liked.  And then blamed Breslow for not landing a player the writer liked.  It's a nothing-burger, but we are now on the same page.

What you call it, and what I call it are two different things. It’s the old it goes without saying, so I guess we agree, and then it was botched Most understand that, and have since it happened, or if this case didn’t happen.

So, even after admitting that no one knew what his plan was, you feel the plan was botched, even though it worked perfectly?

I said whatever YOU want to call it. AJ explained it all. I said at the time it wasn’t the plan, but we’ll see how it all works out. After a rough start it is looking better everyday.

Mize is the best rental on the block now that skubal is a dodger.
but, all the teams that missed out on skubal are now calling Detroit.

griffin does not seem like a guy we would be interested in.

And then there is Holmes!  Holmes is injured so you know bres-slow is very interested!!!
let’s pray someone beats bres-slow is the cell phone and gets Holmes before we give the trade arias for him

What about Detmers 4.03 ERA/3.35 FIP or Jose Soriano 3.29/3.79?

Apparently the Angels are taking calls.

Wacha at 3.51/3.93 (leads the AL in IP)?

Gausman 4.51/3.57? (Package with Springer?)

Trevor Rogers 4.27/3.56?

Robbie Ray 3.08/4.36 or Logan Webb 3.93/3.43?

There's some good to very  good gets, but there's only one excellent get. His name is Skubal. Unfortunately, the Tigers are gonna want a good proven ML starter as part of the trade package.

Nope

LOL.

Bello was once "proven." We coulda given DET Bello, Houck & Crawford!

In the ideal world the Sox would have internal SP options, but the Sox need to get a starter because they have two rookie pitchers that are reaching innings high for them and two pitchers returning from injuries that are not giving them length. As good as the bullpen has been it could get burnt out during the dog days of August. Would the Sox be wise to pick someone up and go to a six man rotation?

He is re-habbing, so not really injured.  IMO, depending on price, Holmes would an excellent get.

Soriano has been for about 3 months.  Webb is almost certainly not available.

OTOH. your Gausman/Springer package almost seamlessly fits our team.  Mayer would be an overpay, but I wouldn't hurl if they made that move.  Maybe Mayer + some TO dinero if CBT is a concern.

We could do that now, if you consider Bello pitching innings 2-6 as a rotation piece.  Most teams don't like doing that.

Or not.   River Ryan is just a much cooler named Tyler Uberstine…

Ryan was a top 100 guy with a 1.14 era in his first MLB starts before getting hurt.

uberstine isn’t anywhere close to having that pedigree.

a top 100 as the second piece for a rental is a pretty nice piece

Thats the “glass half full” description.

Now I see a 27 year old pitcher coming off TJ with a 4.68 ERA in AAA and a pedigree built on all of 20 MLB innings (pre-injury) and no Top 100 ranking anywhere per baseball-reference.

I don’t see him as the #2 piece for the top pitcher in MLB, even as a rental.  (Hope does make some sense as a top piece.)

If the Sox were selling, would you like to see River Ryan as part of the package for Chapman or Gray?

You want Red to admit he was wrong?  It’s easier to get water to claim it’s not wet…

Oh I’m just more pissed Sheehan wasn’t included in the weak a$$ deal. No toxicity towards you in the slightest.

He’s literally ranked #68 by pipeline right now.
When was Uberstine ever ranked?

I’d like Ryan a lot better than Uberstine.

We had some great internal options, many of which have moved into the rotation after opening day. (Maybe Bello moves back in, but why mess with a great 3-5 IP RP'er?)

We do have some possible internal options, but I've come to convince myself never to ever count on returning IL starters ever again. We have some on the IL that have significant histories of pitching very well to great: Crochet, Houck and Crawford. Oviedo had some hopes.

You are right to say we have no internal options. We need to add an innings eater who is pitching well. No more hoping on a turnaround guy, a change or scenery guy or some 44 year old future CY Young guy. We need a pitcher who has been doing well for a month or two and has a history of doing well for extended stretches.

It's more important than a bat, but I'm not saying we can do without adding a significant (LH'd)  bat.
