Is this guy related to the unknighted Anthony Volpe I was watching butcher routine grounders against the Phillies last night?

The Yankees do not appreciate him, this much appears to be true.  And I think he gets moved in the next week, with the Braves atop the list of destinations…

Change of scenery guy.

A Neto/Mead MIF would be a huge step backwards for this team. They'd hit more, but the pitching would suffer.

I think the longer term plan would be Mead at DH or maybe 1B/LF and Neto at 2B.

Point well taken, though. Just because Neto is young and has a low salary outlook, doesn't mean he's the perfect fit.

You guys got me rethinking the Neto idea.

Of course every prospect and even most to all vets have an element of "suspect" in them. Prospects have a higher percentage by nature.

Like I said, I don't understand the concept that old guys are less risky than kids.

All true, but if someone calls with a blow-away offer, I think KC listens.

Going by BTV values, I would not give what it would take to get Witt. Guys like Neto, Abrams, Lindor maybe.

It goes without saying that any player that requires a drastic over-payment, will be a bad deal.

I'm not sure the concept is related to age. It's related to players that have already proven they can perform in the bigs vs those that have yet to play or have a tiny sample size.

Players with longer "proven" productive timeframes seem easier to project, and hence less "suspect."

Age does play a role. I'll take a 27 year old off a recent 1500 PA sample size of .850 hitting over a 33 year old with the exact same numbers. (Both still have elements of suspect in them.)

Well, some of the listed offers mentioned here, seem just like that, even if most listed are top prospects and not top proven vets.

Neto is (a) a very high price point and (b) a guy that has been plastered in trade talks all over the media. Doesn't seem like a Breslow move at all.

I'm blessed to be from the Bronx, so we think differently.  Has it ever occurred to everyone that Breslow might not have been interested in Neto at all?  Drop a dime to one of your 'insider' writers to plant a story that the RS are heavily interested in Neto.  Toboni probably doesn't believe it, but has to consider that possibility.

Four years of Witt for almost our entire minor league system?

Then the Red Sox become the Royals and Witt once again is in the same situation. Baseball is a team sport and one player cannot win the WS by himself.

from the redsox perspective yes great get. How bad is the competition in MLB if the royals trade Witt? It's really sad that these teams can't compete. there are teams that may never have a guy go into the hall of fame with their logo because they have to get rid of the stars.

I don’t see the Royals unloading Witt for a slew of prospects just so they can hope and dream one of them turns into the next Bobby Witt and they can revisit this exact same scenario in 4 or 5 years…

Or the Red Sox go out and get free agents/take on deals that have a ton AFV but a lot of money tied to them and win the World Series like the Dodgers.

I’m not saying I think we should go all in on witt. I’m just saying in the current construct of Major league, the Royals and the Red Sox should never be mentioned in the same strategy.

Neto is good and young. I see the comps to Story for sure, but as long as you don’t have to give up Arias I think he is the 2nd biggest impact bat available. And I think a lot of you guys will love him at second base.

I don’t see it happening without Arias.  Especially since most (all?) organizations prefer quality over quantity…

The thought has to be 2B for him, and you are right about trying to get him while keeping Arias. It would certainly mean starting the offer with Eyanson, Witherspoon and probably Valera, too, so that would be a big chunk out of our pitching future, especially after just trading Early for Mead (a second baseman,) but WTH, we need a big bat and Mead can play DH or eventually 1B/LF if we have to get creative.

I kinda see Abram the same way, except he's a better bat, right now. They are both just 25 years old. That's the balance tipper, to me.

IDK I hear how much you have to overpay to get MLB talent, and then I see what actually gets deals done.
And then the RS propaganda machine says “well to deal with the Red Sox they required Roman/ Arias/ Tolle so we didn’t make deal”

but they trade to other teams for 1 solid prospect 2 years away from being MLB ready.

May I ask what trade you are referring to?

More the Marte deal last year, and the SS deals this year. Skubal deal didn’t seem crazy. And the Peralta deal seemed very logical

Well, it’s 5 years of Marte vs 2 months of Skubal.   I didn’t think the Sox would deal Eyanson plus Arias for 2 months of Skubal..

Luis Garcia to Yankees….. wouldn’t he have made a lot more sense for Red Sox LHB??

Is it final?

Case and point what we give up to get Mead vs what the Yankees give up for Luis Garcia

I see the Early-Mead trade as sideways. Young vet everyday player for young pitcher.

Most deadline deals are prospects for a rental.
