13-2 over the last 15 games.  Terrific pitching by the team, and a little better hitting.

A real shame they fell to 14 under .500  before  figuring out how to support great pitching, but it is rolling now

It was only a week or so ago that people were saying there were too many teams between us an the WC slots. Now, there is just one between us and the last WC slot. (We need to pass two teams that are 0.5 ahead of us.)

Looks like Tracy was right in valuing Monasterio (6 slot) over Duran (7 slot,) but maybe Duran needs to bat 9th or ride the bench.

Looked awful at the plate today.

That can all be forgotten, if we can keep playing well.

We will not keep up this pace, but I think we now have the confidence that we are as good as anyone else (in the Al.)

It's been longer than this game.

Not even counting today:

.453 the previous 16 games.

.404 the previous 19 games.

.455 the previous 31 games.

.605 last 41 games

.614 since the second game of the year.

What is it about Tampa bay?  Is it pitching, hitting, or defense?

Maybe they are due for a long slump, but they seem to just do everything just good enough to get the wins.

When you look at their winter moves, Nick Martinez was an excellent mid level signing, but they did not look like the improved all that much on their 2025 roster.

It's hard to call it luck, when they keep doing it 2 out of every 3 years.

All the naysayers, myself included, have to have hope now of a magical run. The team still has weaknesses but if the pitching holds up, they could make the playoffs in a weak American League.

That was one of my major points last March, but when we looked so bad against such a bad league, we all had serious doubts.

One never knows how well Early, Tolle and Bennett will continue as a starting pitcher but we are looking good for 2027 season. We need our boy wonder Anthony to come back and play left field, find a full time DH (right handed power bat 25-30 HR) and a second basement.

Strengthen the bull pen.

I was shocked when I learned from the telecast that the Sox pen has the lowest ERA in baseball.  Seems to be this has been a weakness until we got to Whit and Chapman.

What a performance by Rivera.  Seems like everyone they start these days puts on a good performance.  I miss how much they ran the previous 2 seasons, but Duran has to get on base for him to utilize his speed and Hamilton is no longer on the team (thankfully).

Regardless this sure is a lot more fun than it was in May.

Great pitching without their ACE too. Its been a long time since the FLOPS had at least three good young arms for SPers. If Bello didn't tank (and I still think there is hope for him) we would be stocked. Now watch: BresLOW will hedge again at the deadline, being neither sellers nor buyers but something in the middle. Neither preparing for a possible playoff run nor obtaining assets for future years to compete for a ring. That is the worst possible tact.

Sometimes he hedges his bets too much and there's hardly any movement with the team. At least at the trade deadlines.

As of right now only the Bankees have a lower ERA in the AL. Unfortunately we are NEXT TO LAST in runs scored. I wrote several times over the winter that this was a good year to go for it all by adding the thump to the lineup we clearly needed. Of course, BrewLOW did a half assed job at it adding only Contreras as a difference maker on offense. I think he will hedge again, to the detriment of the franchise.

It's been a few years in a row, our pen was viewed as a weakness and then over performed. Maybe that's not luck. Maybe these guys know more about baseball than we give them credit for. It's easy to spot and harp on the "bad trades" and the "ones that got away."

IMO, the plan was to have some of our SP'er depth help eat innings in the pen, but for a couple years in a row, we've had way too many SP'er injuries. (I know: join the club, as every team is facing the same issue we are.)

Imagine this pen with a healthy Houck or Crawford pitching the 6th-7th and maybe the 8th, too? Just one of them. Now think of both or add Oviedo. Or, put Crochet into the rotation and slide Sandoval or these rookie SP'ers like Tolle and Early, needing innings reductions into a pen role.

WOW!

Hopefully that will be the landscape with our pitching staff in 2027

I'd say we're doing pretty good considering almost $100M of contracts are not on the field (well I've added Yoshida just because) Ugh

Crochet, Story, Yoshida, Bello, Campbell, and Anthony.

Yes, just no game thread apparently

No access in my area. The Mets network not showing it and it's blocked on my MLB package. So fk it. I guess I'll watch one of the Evil Dead movies.

July 12 Game thread

Score 2 runs in top of 9th. Chapman shuts down the Mets in the bottom half. We score a run, and Whitlock earns his save in the 10th. Three up three down.

We will jump a game ahead of the Astros. Still half game down to Seattle and Twins.  (I think)

Astros just took the lead in the 8th, so they can tie us with a win. If that happens, we will be tied w Texas at 48 loses.

Yeah going into the season I saw Tolle and Early in the bullpen, and that sounded good to me as I was unsure about everybody except Whitlock and Chapman.

But injuries as you said changed that plan.  I just remember so many games early in the season when we just knew a lead in the 5th would not hold up as we saw relievers give it back.  But clearly that has changed.
