why trade Contreras?..we have control thru '28 (team option) at $18 mill per year

If punting on this year and potentially next. Actually resetting the franchise the way they should have done in '22.

Only reason Duran is still here is because Breslow wanted the moon for him and no team wanted to do that. Teams would like him but he has to be realistic about each players current worth on the market and to the team.

What did Breslow want for him?  Duran had the good enough seasons behind him and good enough control ahead of him.  I’d think the asking price should have been fairly high…

Deal Contreras and in the off-season sign 4’0” Andrew Vaughn since they should have acquired the StatCast hero last year before he started blasting baseballs all over the Midwest…

Any chance we can stash away Campbell's salary off the books? What needs to happen?

Put him in a trade 🤷‍♂️

I believe he wanted teams young controlled top pitching prospects. My guess is something needed to be added to that to make it happen since young controlled starting pitching seems to be worth more to teams than what they thought of Duran

I never heard anything like that, which is meaningless.  Have any links?

Well we let a good one get away in Bregman.

He wont hit .800 and have 20 Hrs in any season going forward.

He may not even do one of those by itself.

He's 32.

He's hit over .801 twice in his last 6 seasons and one of those was his 114 gm 2025 season.

He's hit over 20 Hrs three times in his last 6 seasons, which includes the 2020 COVID season.

Bregman is on pace for 12.7 HRs/600 ABs.

Noted team leader and game planner has improve CHC's wRC+ by 4 points. BOS's wRC+ has tanked without him and his ipad.

Don't care. Breggie's ipad worked for Roman.

Contracts that are up by the end of '27:

Gray - decent value to trade

Yoshida - eat the contract and can trade

Contreras - decent value to trade

Chapman - decent value to trade

IKF - no value

Story - no value

Sandoval - no value

Coulombe - very little value

Oviedo - little value

Houck - little value

I wonder what bres-slow could get for a quality closer like Chapman.

if we do keep Chapman and do not make the playoffs,  is that another “Duran wasted opportunity” for bres-slow?

Something a little less than this due to Jhoan's years of control. Maybe you just get one prospect instead of two?

4. Phillies acquire RHP Jhoan Duran from Twins for C Eduardo Tait and RHP Mick Abel (July 30)

One of the hottest available names in the reliever market came off the board as the Phillies added significant firepower to their bullpen in the form of Duran, who brings with him triple-digit fastball velocity and secondary stuff to match. Duran pitched to a 2.01 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings for the Twins this season. Tait, the Phillies' No. 4 prospect as ranked by MLB Pipeline, is an 18-year-old backstop with power potential who was recently promoted to High-A. Abel, ranked No. 2 in Philadelphia's system for several years after he was drafted, had since fallen to No. 6, but he's continued showing improvement, posting a 2.31 ERA in 13 starts as a 23-year-old in Triple-A in 2025.

If we are out of contention by July, is this something bres-slow will consider?

Oh sure. Hard to be one of the worst 5 players in MLB year in and year out if given several chances. How many chances should he get though?

Durbin is THE WORST in MLB in OPS. the Nationals have a second baseman named Nasim Nunez that is just ahead of him. like Durbin, i fully expect Bresloverpay to trade some of our young pitching for this loser too....

I've spoken of the length of his leash several times, recently.

Story, Duran and IKF, too. (Story took care of that choice for Tracy.)

Q: what do these guys all have in common?

Cal Raleigh, Bo BIchette, Fernando Tatis Jr, Steve Kwan, & Manny Machado

A: like Duran and Story, they're all in the bottom 20 in OPS

I could make a WS favorite from the number of guys that have started slow.

I could make a WS favorite from the number of guys that disappeared in the 2nd half of 2025.

That's the nature of BB.

i know that. everybody here wants to dump Story, Durbin and Duran for their extremely slow start. i wonder if Mariner, Padre, Mets and Guardian fans want their guys dumped too.

They are all guys all of us would have praised Brez for getting us last winter.

There is a portion of every fan base that will write off players after a 0-4 day.  The RSN has more of them, but every team has some.

Just circling back on this, I wish that some of the fans tried to apply some logic to it.  When Story goes cold, there is every possibility he is in permanent decline.  When it happens to Duran, he is far too young to have simply lost his skills.

probably so...but for myself, i didn't want Bichette for the money he wanted.

I didn't want him at half the money he wanted or 2/3 of what he got.

Who knows? Maybe. Can he even pull off a trade though?

The problem is that it's not one 0-4 day. This Monday is Memorial Day and the team is WAY below .500. This has been 8 weeks of failure.
