The dropoff from Duran and Story plus Anthony and Mayer not performing like top prospects so far have been a major factor why the offense has been so impotent.

Because honesty is the best policy, I predicted the Sox would win 90 games this season. I believe ESPN had predicted the Sox winning 88.

Story and Duran could be benched.  I’d want them to demote Durbin, but he was actually this horrible at the plate at this time last year, too (.501 OPS as late as May 20), so it’s looking like he is a very slow starter.

I’m standing by bringing up Braiden Ward at least until Anthony returns.  Sure it probably won’t work, but how much more confident am I in Duran at this point?

The FO failure to cash its check on Duran's value 2 off seasons ago would have been the right move, or at least this past off-season.    They missed a potential big gain.

Yet for all the experience and data available, a good baseball evaluator would have predicted a decline for Duran who never really had star potential as he approached 30 .

I like watching his effort but this decline was predictable .  The fact that the organization cannot get him on track is another coaching shortcoming.

I was all for trading Duran 2 off-seasons ago, but there were some on here who said oh no you can’t take one of the Red Sox big bats away. You know who you were, and now he’s not worth much personality, and all.

Yup. I overestimated them. I was counting on the current roster to perform as expected, and they aren't doing that. I should have taken into account how demoralizing it must be for the players to realize that the FO is too cheap to pay for the kind of help they needed over the winter. Schwarber said that the FLOPS expressed what he called "tepid interest" in signing him, consisting of one zoom call. Thats pathetic.

I don't think you can blame the front office for Duran hitting .178.  These are professional athletes, they need to perform up to expectations and most of them are failing big time.

If the current hitters were performing as expected, this team is rivaling NY and Tampa…

I try not to deal in what might have been -just what is.

I agree. I’ve heard so much on here of if this, and if that, but just what is is what counts.

At the time Brez was hired, better candidates didn't want the job. I don't think that's changed

With the 12th pick in the 2023 HOBO draft the Red Sox select Craig Breslow.

I agree, but further decline was possible, and his inconsistencies and constant adjustments to his approach led many, including you, to think trading him was a good idea.

The OF/DH log jam also was a reason, too. We may never know what was offered for him, but almost anything would look good, now.

Everybody knew we had a bad offense coming into this season.

it started in the playoffs last year. it was evident we had no offense and Brezslow did nothing about it.

He did things that did not work: Durbin, IKF, Monastario plus making Anthony and Mayer the best FT options,

He did one thing that worked: Contreras.

He did not trade Duran.
