Red Sox front office did something right. They got rid of Devers.

But there’s no point in putting up with a league-worst defensive 3b while the much easier 1b is being manned by stopgap players…

That is basically the underlying point being made, and we "put up with it" for years too long.

The idea that the worst defensive 1Bman in recent memory was "blocking" 1B was an absurd point, and back then Casas had trade value or could have DH'd.

Story is now going on year two playing SS while being a clear negative on D. It's arguable we have someone better, so at least there is a case to be made on why he's still there, but I'd try Mayer at SS.

DRS = 0

OAA = -1

FRV = -1

I'm not concerned about his defense, if he reverts back to his 2025 hitting.

Maybe I could have worded it better, but his numbers since 2025:

-7 DRS

-11 OAA

For a SS, these numbers call for replacement.

He was fine on defense before.

Defense leaguewide must really stink if that's what Story is graded at this year.

Apparently, he's still better than Bogey.

I get that but Breggie is better at 3B, Devers is better at 1B, Casas is better at 1B and Story was better at 2B. (Mayer SS?)

I can't really argue with any of that.  Still, despite being a strong proponent of defense, I would have left Devers at 3B and put Bregman at 2B.  Call me crazy.

That said, Devers should have been taking reps at 1B all along.  Perhaps he would have been more inclined to move to 1B once Casas was injured if the Red Sox had initially sold him on the idea that he was our #2 first baseman on the depth chart.

I do agree, Devers should have been moved to 1B long before the Bregman signing.
