The only batter in tonight's game that has an AB against the opposing pitcher is Clement with 0-1 against Tolle. Yesavage most likely on a pitch count coming off the DL. Blue Jays last in the A.L. in runs scored at the moment, so the Sox caught a break getting the Jays now considering how the Red Sox have been scuffling themselves at the plate. The Blue Jays have not announced a Starting hurler for tomorrow's game yet, maybe they are going to go with an opener tomorrow, so it would be nice if we could somehow tax their pen tonight, given the arsonist who is pitching for us tomorrow. The Red Sox get their 4th in a row tonight, lets say 6-2.

two innings, two men left on 3rd. If you have to resort to bunting to get on base to lead off an inning, why stop there, steal second base, and they are up 1-0 after Mayer gets ANOTHER hit(why is he hitting 8th).

He's cracked the .700 line and might be a walk and single away from the league OPS.

some were, I was not one of them, I have issue with the left side of second base both in and out, Durbin is the biggest piece of garbage that I have seen play 3B for the Sox during my 70 orbits

You must have been off planet during the Pablo Sandoval years…

Before the week is out, there will be calls for Mayer & Durbin to be our 3/4 hitters.

Basically one year of his overpaid ass, lets hope that is the same length we have to endure little squirt as he will not get the 115 hits fatso got.

Anthony is officially a concern in my book. He’s going from bad to ugly to worse. Those early contracts to our young players maybe weren’t a good idea.

yep. Bello, Campbell and Anthony may all end up as complete busts. it was completely unnecessary to give them those contracts. they should have made them earn their contracts first rather than paying them and hoping they produce.

Anthony has a bit of a weakness for chasing curveballs in the dirt, but he will be fine.

Especially when you remember that this June, some future top prospects that are older than Anthony will just be getting drafted…

Absolutely.  Why tie up young players for mediocre player money when you can see if they become stars first and then trade them for Jeter Downs and Alex Verdugo?

how many "can't miss players" turn into dogshit? yeah, a lot more than those become stars like Mookie. so, yeah, lets pay stupid money to every "top prospect" on the slim chance one in hundred "might" hit it big. hell yeah, let's tie up more money now on Casas, Mayer, Narvaez, Tolle, Early, etc. to save Henry some money later. assuming they all turn into all stars.

Is it worth giving 5 players utility infielder money to risk getting one superstar?  Campbell has an AAV of $7.25 million. On today’s market, that gets you Steven Matz.  Bello makes a little over $9mill AAV, enough to almost sign Kyle Finnegan.

Now together, both their deals are worth $115mill, which can get you 3 years of Framber Valdez, who is likely only that cheap due to his anger issues.  Or, hey, the Sox could have gotten 4 years of Kazuma Okamoto and had enough left for 3 years of Tsunyami Imai, not that either of them have earned their contracts yet.

Why not roll the dice on these deals?  Because you want a $500 mill contract attached to a player who then gets surrounded by replacement level talent?

Thats the beauty of these deals; the players don’t need to turn into stars to justify them.  Bello is making less money this year than Mike Lorenzen.  Have you EVER wanted the Sox to sign Mike f***ing Lorenzen?  Third rate closers have higher AAVs than Bello.  His pitching might be a bust, but his contract isn’t, because he fits in well with s*** team closer money.

Earn their money first? We don’t want them earning the wages they’re being paid..

Because he hasn’t set the league on fire before his 22nd birthday?

i dont know about anyone else on here but I'm not that high on Tolle yet. To me i still don't think he has a quality 2nd pitch let alone a 3rd one. His FB was down 2-3 MPH from the Yankee start. I  think at least until he develops a quality off speed pitch he should be in the BP where his 97-100 can play up best.  Right now I like Early better.

He’s hitting what? 200? Not to mention he already injured and hasn’t field well.

But hey.., we are still in the “it’s still early bandwagon.”

You’re right.  He’s clearly a bust.  It’s like the old saying goes “if they’re not hitting by 21, they never will.”
