Okay, this should be a fun series under normal circumstances. But nothing is normal this year for the Sox.

After his performance in the WBC and then getting 3 hits on opening day I said to myself this guy's gonna be special. Now I'm not so sure about Anthony. His approach at the plate is completely broken down. I also believe his confidence level is at an all-time low.

His ineptitude at the plate only makes a weak Sox offense weaker.

Hopefully, he can get back to how he looked last season before the injury.

Jose Flores added as bench coach today.

No surprise there as he was his bench coach at Woo before.

Yes little Anthony is looking real suspect at the moment.

Who is going to be coaching down in WOO going forward? They are going to have to move a bunch of guys around today.

IDK. I know they named a new Portland manager.

If the shoe fits————. You hyped him up as much, or more than anyone.

and the day he turns into an all-star, he'll say that he knew he was going to be an all-star all along.

He has a way of wording things that allows claiming being right, no matter what happens, or he just changes the meanings of words to make it corrrect.

Yes, I did and still am/will.

He's going to be a hell of a player. I never claimed he would certainly be great in 2025.

You act like only prospects are "suspect." Newsflash: everyone is, including devers, Bichette, Bregman, Alonso and...

If , and when he turns out to be an all star I’ll take little off his name and give him an atta boy.. I’m just reporting what he’s doing now, which is all that counts at the moment.

I'm not sure why everyone doesn't understand this.  Everyone is a suspect.  The odds of a FA aging out before his contract ends is just as high as a good prospect flaming out.  I just shake my head when fans want to sign a 32 year old FA to a 6-year contract.

News flash they are not in a Red Sox uniform he moment, or in the same stage of their careers, but little Anthony is, so hoping little Anthony turns out as good doesn’t put any runs on the scoreboard at the moment.🙈

i may be wrong (i'm sure my wife would say that i am), but i think some of the negativity towards Mayer (and i'm as guilty as anybody) is that it seems like he has been part of the organization (and hyped like crazy) for such a long freakin' time that people think he should be producing at an all-star level by now. it's hard to believe he's just barely 23. give it some time and he'll be fine.

So your point here is that we have a 22 year old with a career 3.6 bWAR in a little over a half-season of ABs, and that you think that's a negative?

The RS fans are renowned for writing off prospects after incredibly small sample sizes.

Agree, but things get magnified when the Red Sox start out as bad as they did, and Mayer, and Anthony not hitting is one of the many reasons that have contributed to that. Anthony, and Mayer’s hype preceded them before  they even got to Portland.

It's like he's Bryan Mata with how long he was in the farm system!

If you want to talk about prospect fatigue, Allan Castro is in his 6th year in the system and is just now at AAA. He's still interesting to many national guys, not just SoxProspects.

It is on the scoreboard, which has helped lead to the losing record.

We need a good performance from Suarez today.  We need to get the rotational consistency.  Good games from Early, Tolle, and Crochet.  If Suarez can start turning in consistent QS+, then we can get by with Bello's badness until Gray returns.

Get ready to stock shelves at Spag's, Bello.

He's not at bat this very moment.

Your issue with hype seems obsessive.

I think we all expected a learning curve and understood the chances of flopping or under performing expectations is always possible, as it is with a 28 vet with a .850+ OPS for 3 straight years.

Every player is suspect to some degree, but you are hyperfocused on highly-regarded prospects for some reason. You might criticize vets for not meeting expectations, but never call them "suspects."

Is it your cute word play on rhyme?

Prospect>>> Suspect

Nobody is denying the rookies have not helped.

OMG! Story is not a suspect even though his play is at the moment. All I’ve heard the last 3 years are the prospects are coming, the prospects are coming, the prospects are coming, and hyping them up before they even put on a Red Sox uniform, and produced to go from being a prospect from a suspect.

Story is not suspect because you say so?

His health has been suspect for 3+ years.

His bat has been suspect due to his inflated COL home splits.

His defense has been suspect since 2025. His arm from before that.

So, do you hear the "prospects are coming" and conclude we are more sure than you they will be great?

That we expect they will be great year 1 and two?

You know, when Betts, Bogey and Bradley were prospects, we heard a lot of hype, and some took a year or two to find their groove. There are other times some prospects get hyped and flop, but rarely have we had 3 like now and like the 3 Bees from the mid 2010's.

I don't get why you keep having to bring up the fact that some fans get excited about having good looking young players in the pipeline. It's almost always better than having nothing.
