LAD has had 4 LFs in four years, and the NYMs haven't settled on a 3B or CF for the same period.

Settling on a different player each season is far different than throwing 4 guys at one position in one year like the Red Sox have continuously done at 2b.

LAD LF

'25 Conforto 129 Games

'24 Teoscar 115 Games

'23 Peralta 108 Games

NYM CF

100+ Games

Nimmo '23 > Bader '24 > Taylor '25

NYM 3B

Baty '23 > Vientos '24 > Timeshare '25

Boston Red Sox 19-25 at 2b:

The only player to amass over 100 games at 2b over that time period was Christian Arroyo, with his highest GS in a season at 51!

It's just not the same.

And when you have elite players, you have that luxury.

Meanwhile Dodger fans are calling Andrew Friedman cheap for passing on Bo Bichette for 2b and settling for some combination of Tommy Edman, Hyesong Kim and Miguel Rojas…

Some of that could be attributed to Cora’s love for platooning…

I'd say trade for Edman, but he's owed about 45M left on his deal.

No according to most Sox fans from 2005 through 2011 that saw a rotating SS carousel.  Some folks compared it on the disaster level to Mount Vesuvius…

Knowing what we know now, OCab was a bad hombre and had to go. Rentawreck was a truly horrible signing. Theo's crush on Lugo was clearly misguided. I will speak for everyone and say how we all loved Marco Scutaro and Alex Gonzalez. Gonzalez should have ben on the '07 team. Trading Scutaro for Clayton Mortensen was really dumb. Scutaro and Middlebrooks on the left side of the IF in '13 might not have cut it.

They did have both Jose Iglesias and Hanley Ramirez, but chose to trade them away during that period.

Okay, that's different.  I was referring to teams having organizational black holes.  In this case, two things:

  • With Story's and Mayer's health issues, the depth 'could' become important.  That's in addition to Hamilton's very good 2024 and very weak 2025, as well as Romy's reliance on a .378 BABIP.  Just for fun, over the past two seasons, Player A (per 600 ABs) has 18 HRs and a 162/35 K/W.  Player B has 18 HRs and a 162/45 K/W.
  • And I believe that Romy will be less involved in the infield, and more involved as a RH DH.  IKF & Mayer  start everyday, and Romy, DHam, Wong and Masa will be the bench.  I expect this to work out better than some expect.

luxury of still being able to win championships despite holes, not luxury of fan contentment lol

So 4, not 4+

True, but it's been 9 seasons with nobody starting over 95 games at 2B.

O Cab a bad hombre? Care to explain?

Whatever he may or may not have done PALES in comparison to the idiocy of losing him.

My recollection is that he had an affair with another player's wife.

That was the rumor, along with hitting on others' wives.

9 teams in 15 years for a plus defensive SS who hit pretty well. Hmmmm...

Right now 2B is set up for Cora to platoon. As of right now I don't think the post trade deadline 2B is part of the organization unless someone plays above and beyond their past track record. The Sox will start the season and see if the pitching -defense is a winner for them. With so many young players you don't know how the offense will do. If they score enough with a defense first second basement this might work.

I think it’s still possible the Sox move from their starting pitching surplus for an infielder, especially once teams start seeing pitchers go down with injury…

Why wait? We need a 2Bman, now. We know we need one.

We will need one later, if we don't get one now.

Do we trust Brez to overpay at the deadline?

Gotta say, still would've kept him considering the horrors we faced with Edgar (30 errors) Renteria, Alex (no hit) Gonzalez, and Julio (sucks at Baseball) Lugo, soon after.

He became a FA, so it was up to him, too, although I never heard we made him an offer.

One other important factoid: we recieved two comp picks for losing him to free agency:

Ellsbury and Lowrie

We later traded Lowrie for Melancon and Melancon for Brock Holt.

We later got Michael Kopech as a comp pick for losing Elsbury to free agency, and he was a key part of the Sale trade.

I think I'm glad it worked out like it did.

That being said, I loved that Nomar trade and actually predicted it would lead us to a ring.
