Yes Great for Bogey, but what Chaim gets blamed for was just offering to tack on 1 year to the contract Bogey already had.

No, people are mad because the Globe printed a dopey picture of him with the Xander story. He wasn't going to match the Padres's offer.

I don’t think the Red Sox ever planned on resigning Bogey anyway, and thus the weak extension offer, and they got Story at a cheaper option anyway. If the Red Sox had acted sooner on Bogey before he opted out they might have gotten him at not much more than they signed Story for.

While it is certainly Bogaerts’ call, the man advising him during contract negotiations was Scott Boras, who is known for giving advice to wait until all offers are on the table….

If that's the case, why didn't they wait until January or February to sign a deal like with other Boras guys?

Chaim's present to Red Sox Nation.

And to think Schwarber was available for the same price 12 months earlier. 😧

No place to play him!

Ride out the J.D. Martinez contract for a year, or find a way to move him, or ANYTHING.

Up there with Chaim's two deadlines for keeping me awake at night.

No, Masa feels like a real stick in the mud, unfortunately. If they trade Harper, they can go back and get Schwarber no worries. I think they'd get out of that Harper contract given the chance. Whether they'd eat a big chunk of his contract, or take salary on in return is hard to say. It's a very difficult trade to judge.

Agreed. There was an article somewhere that asked if the Phillies can keep the "window open" with all their financial cots about to skyrocket just to keep the status quo. Sounds like a familiar DD tune.

Is anybody still torn up we lost Bogey?

Even if we got him for $160M/6, I'm not so sure it would be a great deal. His bat has shown real decline, and it started year one of his new deal- not the "back-end" like we always hear about.

If Bogey is here, the Sox have another team leader and a guy that can talk to Devers. Devers doesn't get traded because his bestfriend speaks to him about switching positions.

For sure. They figured it out for a playoff run. They could have figured out one more regular season.

It was really dopey, but dont blame the Globe, it was mega dopey because of the caption which was a direct quote

"Hold on , I need a moment"

How about this? If you cant lie, dont try

"I need a moment" is the most authentic thing we ever got out of the guy. They tried doing a puff piece about him one ST and all I remember of it was the tangent about him drinking Whistle Pig at his hotel.

It's hard to know what PHI would want for Harper.

How about Duran and Hicks for Harper and Painter, then flip Painter, Garcia and Sandlin for Joe Ryan.

Would BTV approve?

I doubt you get Painter for Duran, unless DD knows Painter is damaged goods.

Possibly.

With Devers, it will come down to spending his money, or not.

I'd rather have Alonso & Bichette/Polanco/Suarez than Devers and Bogey.

We got him for Hunter Renfroe.  And since that trade, Hamilton has been much better than Renfroe…

I like Hamilton a lot.  He has a 3.7 bWAR in 471 ABs over the past 2 years, can run, field, and at least owns a SS glove for an odd start.  His only real issue, and it's big, is that he cannot hit lefties.

Masa is a nothing-burger.  If he is healthy, he can land a 110 OPS+.  He's overpaid, that's all, and not even tremendously overpaid.

After he foolishly thought he still had a shot at resigning Bogey.🙈

I doubt Chaim had any intention of extending him.  IMO, it was going to be either Bogaerts or Devers.  No doubt in my mind.

Authentic? Do you think that was actual surprise? Of course he knew that the sox bid wasnt competitive. Agents communicate.  Of course Boras went to him and was like last chance and he said no. Then hes like what bogey isnt a rs anymore. Hold on.

Im sure it was genuine that part of him felt lousy for a great relationship ending.  Im not saying he wasnt sad about it.  But it was played up for the cameras becuase it was known by that point.

You shouted at the top of your lungs Devers Forevers 1000 times over. 🙈 I’ll take Bogey, and Raffy.

but i do agree mvp, that while that moment was not what i would call authentic, it may have been his most authentic moment because there was some truth to him being somewhat sad to know bogey was for sure out...But he played it up for the cameras

Then they replaced one actor (bloom) with another in bres

Just talk to us. Stop trying to spin/narrative everything. We see through you (bloom, bres, henry, full throttle guy...).

I said at the time that this was the right price.  And even at that price, I liked it because I liked Bogaerts, not because I thought it was a good deal.

He's been untradeable so far and is a blocker on the roster.

I don't know if it was authentic or not, but he was never a guy who played things up for the cameras. It'd be out of character for him to do that. I think he was taken aback and worried about the backlash from losing the second franchise player during his tenure.

you think he was surprised? I promise you , boras went to him with a chance to match it and he refused.

I guess you can be taken aback when reminded of something that you already knew was going to do or did happen.  Maybe thats called reopening old wounds.  BUt he knew , and it didnt seem to me like it appeared like he knew bogey was gone.

You think Painter (who has already had 1 TJ) is worth more than 4 years of an outfielder who has posted 13.3 bWAR in the last 2 seasons? Will Painter be worth 13.3 bWAR total in the next 4 seasons?

I think some folks drastically undervalue Duran…
