Anthony is not allowed to swing until he has two strikes.

That’s an adjustment he needs to make.  That AB he’s up 2-0.  Wisely lets a perfect pitch low and way go.  The 2-1 pitch should have hammered.

He’s going to have to swing at the first good strike at some point just to change the pitcher’s approach.  Get me over fastballs need to be hit.  He doesn’t have to do it all the time, but he has to do it sometimes.

I agree 1500 percent.

Rafaela just puts the ball in play would have changed the inning but he flailed away once again. Zero discipline

Had a good swing at the first one but hooked it foul.  Then he swung at everything; pretty sure only one was a strike.

Cease is nothing to write home about. He just caught the Sox on  one of their cease and desist hitting days.

He’s had a poor season, but he’s had a few really good outings sprinkled in there.  Today was one of those.

Weissert is kind of special. 29 pitch inning

One thing I noticed about the Padres this series; they put the ball in play.  They don’t swing at pitches that never look like strikes and they foul off 2 strike pitches.  You may strike them out eventually, but you will need 7-8 pitches to do it.

Put the ball in play and good things can happen.  SD has several hits today that weren’t hit very hard but by getting the bat on the ball …

Campbell is special too. 0-2  count issues a walk, gives up a hit. uses 20+ pitches but keeps the deficit at 4

What a f***ing s***** game. Another L series on the road against a winning team.  Blue Jays up as well .

If the Padres had any offense at all, this would have been a lot worse than just 6-2. Bogaerts credited with 3 RBI today.

Mookie used to let a lot of middle middle strikes go by at times too. Roman has always had a very patient approach. He'll figure it out.

Errors as a metric aren’t irrelevant. I think it’s fair game to criticize the Sox for the number of errors they commit because they lead the league in errors. It’s just that they aren’t the most important metric when deciding which teams are good or not so good defensively.
Errors give the other team extra outs.

So do hits that sure-handed fielders either no range cannot get to…

25 - most errors in MLB

24 - 2nd most errors in MLB

23 - 2nd most errors in MLB

22 - 14th most errors in MLB

21 - 2nd most errors in MLB

20 - 3rd most errors in MLB

20-25: most errors in MLB by 43! (teams behind them MIA, WSH, CHW the real garbage teams)

Sugarcoat it all you want, but the errors do matter. They need to clean it up if they want to have a deep run in the playoffs. Their overall DRS/OAA numbers are carried by a select few players and playing one of them out of position is completely stupid. It takes them from a top 5 DRS team to a middle of the pack DRS team.

Give me a clue - how can we have 15 strikeouts in a game (Saturday)?

Why does Cora-mea-mi keep using his  magnificent closer as a setup man? Doesn't he know the definition of CLOSER? I wish somebody would tell him - its a pitcher who closes out the game. It's not a pitcher who allows you to lose the game in the next inning! And BTW, manager, when a pitcher walks 2 men in a row, it might be time to remove him - I don't care what inning it is - the dude has lost his control. After the next 2 walks (bringing in 2 runs with 1 hit - a leadoff single) it might well be time to bring in a pitcher with superb control - Hicks. Right! What is Hicks doing in the majors? He couldn't throw 3 balls over the plate if his life depended on it.... Get a hitting coach and dump these pitchers with no control. The major league is not a place for training!
