All hail the BP.

Some guys can’t handle the bright lights, some guys need and relish them.  Would a guy like Ortiz have done what he did had he remained in Minnesota?  Or moved on to KC?

Very true, but in those 2 mentioned cities it more than just bright lights.

He was lucky. He had one good outing after a lot of awful ones. You can’t run him out there every fifth game if you want to maximize your chances to make the playoffs

Of course he was lucky.  But in his 3 other starts in July he went 7 IP vs the Phillies and gave up 1 ER, 6 vs the Rays giving up 3 ER's, and 5 vs the Nats giving up 2 ER's.   That's not bad for a #4 starter even though he was awful and awfully lucky today.

The Sox team Ortiz joined in 2003 already had some pretty good hitters.

Tampa Bay now 3 1/2 games out of playoffs with the Yankees coming up.

Our chances of getting Yandy Diaz improve as they struggle. He is under contract through 2027.

Terrific win.  Sox finish the three NL Division leaders gauntlet at 4-5.

Terrific bullpen, smart managing, timely hitting, and solid defense.

The AL's best center fielder was the only 2nd baseman on the Sox who could have pulled off that 8th inning DP.

Sure looked that way to me.  Unbelievably alert.

Both Manny and Papi had the perfect personalities to excell in Boston.

Both Williams and Rice played most of their career with chips on their shoulders which motivated both to excell.

Pedro was motivated by his hate of the Dodgers and YAZ was treated like Tom Yawkey's son.

Both Jim Rice and Ron Santo were inducted long after they should have been. Rice and the press didn't get along too well, so there's that. The only thing I know about Santo is that he was inducted 2 years after his death. Hopefully, Evans will be inducted while he's alive.

I honestly don't like Cora making Rafaela play 2b, but I understand why (get more lefty bats in the lineup) and agree completely with your point.   Rafaela and Narvaez have the two highest WAR's, 4.0 and 3.2, on the team because both are terrific on defense and can hit.

Duran, Rafaela, and Story have the three most total bases--187, 160, and 158--on the team.  Story now leads tjhe Sox in rbi's with 61.

What a nice win!

Sure was.  Also a spellbinder of a game.  Watching Buehler tonight was like watching the perils of Pauline.  Then Chapman south like he was jumping off a cliff.

Both times Cora changed pitchers just in time.

Not much Cora is a bum talk, recently.

winning fixes everything.

Yes, and Cora is the same manager when winning and losing.

When his mostly good choices work- silence.

When his mostly good choices fail- he's the bum.

Narvaez turned out to be a big pickup. He looks confident at the plate. His winter ball experience has really paid off......

Rangers travel to LAA and Seattle for 6. Then come home to face the Yankees and the Phillies for 6.

Someone needs to cool them off.

What is Christian Campbell up to?

He's been hitting lately. He really tore it up against St Paul, but that team has the 2nd worst ERA in the International League. His HR that got posted all over social media was off a guy with a 7+ ERA and a 90.1 mph 4 seamer.

Sox are trying to get him lots of reps at 1b (15 games, 0 errors).

the problem is, he wins at the same rate that he loses.

When he has a mediocre team, he gets mediocre results. I think he needs more veteran players to the results we expect around here (we were happy with him in '18 and '21).

We all have agreed on just how s***** our rosters have been since the Betts trade.

.500 is not bad in that context. Now, he has a good team, and we are doing pretty well, despite losing a big chunk of our rotation in Houck &, Crawford, plus Devers.
