Connor Wong is horrible. He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. What a rally killer.

Seriously?  The top of the Sox order was absolutely and completely worthless after Refsnyder led off with a freaking double.  Bregman grounded out weakly and Gonzalez and Anthony both struck out.

At least Wong got the ball to the outfield.

He made an out

He’s useless-but he has a lot of company

“Got the ball to the outfield” and? It was weak contact. He has 0 extra base hits, is 0-29 with RISP, sucks defensively and has a -0.6 WAR, he’s awful.

For an easy out. He hasn't got a hit with men in scoring position ALL YEAR. Pathetic.

Why is he still on the roster?? Give someone else-anyone-else a chance. No one could do worse.

All of these posts have merit.  Weak contact (which is what Wong has had all year) isn’t good, but it beats no contact (ala Romy today).  Weak contact at least has a minute chance of something good happening.

Wong is not the problem tonight.  In these first two games the Cubs have hit and pitched better than the entire Red Sox team.  The Sox have five good righty hitters against lefty pitchers--Ref, Bregman, Gonzalez, Story, Rafaela--and they have 1 double in 10 at bats.  Plus we had the same problem yesterday when Narvaez was the catcher and couldn't hit spit. Heck, Cora had to pinch hit for him--plus was called for catcher interference.

I like Narvaez a lot.  Great find by Breslow.  And it didn't take Cora long to make him the primary catcher.  I also think Wong has been kept because he is useful as the backup catcher.

All of the first part of what you said can be true, sure.

Wong still sucks

A completely winnable game with 12 outs to go. But no spark in the batting order . Abreu , Duran, Mayer all waiting for a RH reliever.

We really need to be sellers at the deadline. The team is going nowhere. But they do have some good players for the next several years on which to build a 90 win team.
