Although I'm pretty sure there's a pitcher named Kluger who also sucks.

Surprisingly, there has never been a major league player named Kluger, according to Basebsll Reference..

Devers was a self centered prima donna. The team needs a total rebuild from top to bottom if they ever want to compete for a ring again. Players with a crap attitude like Devers aren’t the way to build a good team no matter how talented they are.
I won’t miss him

Thanks for the Kluger update.

Btw, this game thread has been programmed as badly as Breslow.

A lot of them. I don’t know of any other divas on the team though.

yeah, Diva was and is a self-centered POS. the front office has a lot of work to do, but like what i've been trying to say is: i think they do a very poor job of evaluating talent. so, expect more trade a good piece for prospect garbage trades.

I ALWAYS want what’s best for the Flops. Usually that means winning, but sometimes-like this year NOW-it means losing as many games as possible to improve our draft position.

MLB Draft is much more of a crapshoot than for the NFL or the NBA.

I do not see Devers departure as the end of this season.  Bregman and others on the IL can help this team.  I believe Mayer and Anthony will improve this season.  Rafaela already is.  Story hard to tell, but he has led the Sox in rbi's this month.  Toro/Gonzalez are better than Casas was before he ended his season by running to 1b.  m,

I like this lineup, offensively and defensively:  Bregman 3b, Story/Mayer SS; Mayer/Story 2b; Toro/Gonzalez 1b, Narvaez/Wong catcher; Anthony LF, Rafaela CF,  Abreu RF, and Yoshida/Ref/Duran as DH.

Crochet, Bello, and now Giolito are now looking like 3 pretty good starters.  When Dobbins returns, that's a decent 4th.  The big question mark to me is the bullpen.

Back to Devers.  Since he joined the Giants, they are 4-7 and the Sox are 3-8.  9 of the Sox games were on the west coast.  The Giants played 9 at home.

I'm not saying the Sox have turned it around.  How could I? But I am saying this season is not hopeless.

That was kinda the point I was getting at.

I think Bregman is a great team leader type. I'd try hard to extend him to 2-3 years, but I'd go 4-5, if needed to keep him here.

I like Rafaela, Narvaez, Mayer, Anthony, Abreu and Romy. Refsnyder might retire, but I'd bring him back for one more, if he wants to.

Story and Yoshida are about as untradeable as can be. I don't think either is a cancer in the clubhouse, so we probably keep them around.

I think Duran is the most likely big-named player to be traded, perhaps this deadline for prospects or longer controlled a younger player(s.). Wong, DHam and Grissom are all tradeable, but none will bring back any real value.

I'm not sure what to think of KC, but I'm certainly not ready to give up on him.

We do need to give up something for something good, so we may have to decide on some young players to trade.

Our pitchers are either one and dones or all worth keeping in hopes a few improve. The only ones I'd trade, beyond the soon-to-be FAs are Kelly and maybe Guerrero and Fitts, but I'd hope the return would be for better pitching.

No, Devers trade didn’t end the season. It was over long before the trade. Insufficient talent is the reason we suck.
The season isn’t over. There are a lot more losses to go.

Pretty accurate imo. But I’m not sure I’d go 4-5 with Bregman. We can flush a lot of the players but unless management joins them in the hopper the Flops will never compete for a ring again. Management sucks at evaluating talent.

Year after stinkin year the fans put up with garbage teams.
Please don’t show up at any of these games. Don’t buy any Flops gear. $$ is the only thing Henry understands.

My living room set up features two TVs: A large one and a small one. Obviously, the large one is my primary TV, and I only use the small one when there are multiple games on I want to watch.

For most of the season, the Red Sox have been on my primary TV. Even during May when we were inventing new ways to lose, I was still enjoying watching this team, and looking forward to watching the games ever night (for the most part - there were a few exceptions).

Today, however, I had the Pirates on my large TV and the Sox muted on my small TV. And you know what? I had more fun watching the Pirates beat the Mets to a pulp for the third straight day. The Pirates - yes, those Pirates - are more fun to watch than the Red Sox right now, and that is a sentiment I have felt multiple times this season. At least you know the Pirates will give you a quality start most nights and keep you in the ballgame. That's more than you can say about the Sox.

The contract may have changed Devers, but I think what changed him was losing 3b when Bregman arrived.  That said, there have been zillions of prima donnas in MLB whose skills still made them valuable.

Devers played 121 games on the 2018 Sox and 11 games in the postseason with 9 rbi's, 4th most on the team.

I think we do miss Raffy, but have no problems with the trade.  He was too pricey for a DH, especially when Yoshida can only be a DH.

Plus I kind of like the lineup when Bregman returns.  My biggest concern is the pitching.

We all love a winner, especially a winning team.  And it can be painful rooting for a team below .500.

We are going nowhere this year. The more games we lose the less likely Breslow will do something stupid like try to salvage another list season by becoming buyers and the better our draft position will be.

We will miss Devers production but you don’t rebuild a team with self centered divas. It’s exactly the wrong place to start.

No evidence for this, except that which originated with the front office.
