IMO, if they choose to keep him, Buehler should be relegated to the long relief role Newcomb had early on.  He only comes in if the starter has a bad day and it doesn’t really matter if he does well or not.

There is nothing more infuriating than watching a guy who isn’t just bad, but bad because he won’t throw strikes.

Command is part of it, I agree.  But in his case too many of his strikes can get hit hard.  No question he was a vast overpay by Breslow, a former MLB pitcher for 10 years.

Keep him at $21.5M?

Kelly is another guy I wouldn’t be sad at all to see go

Yeah, he doesn’t even offer potential long relief to eat up innings that Buehler does.

And I’m not advocating keeping Walker.

One thing Sox players have been great at for the last few years is going on the IL.

Given what we've seen this season, I would label Buehler as the worst possible choice to pitch multiple innings.

Sox are going to pay him one way or another.  If they release him, someone probably takes a shot on him for the prorated portion of the MLB minimum.

I think he might just be washed. He was very good before injuries but he just doesn’t have it anymore.

He’ll probably end up back in LA and somehow become a competent pitcher again.

That’s why he only gets used in games where you fall well behind early and you don’t really care if he gets hit so long as he can save the rest of the pen some innings.

And staying on the IL as long as possible.

Can you blame them? Who in their right mind would want to be part of this train wreck? I’d want to stay home too.

Houck, like Duran, had career seasons last year.

Houck had a career half season.  He was pretty bad after the ASB.

Add base running as another thing the Sox suck at .

I’ll give Romy a break on that one; from field level, it had to have looked like the LF had caught it and he had to get back.

(And now thanks to the Jays catcher, it ended up exactly the way it would have).

Edit - and in true Sox fashion, don’t take advantage of it.

The Flops just blew their last chance to tie the game.
The Jays will now add on, though the result was decided in the first half inning.

They just posted Houck’s rehab stats today; they were ugly again.

He should only pitch in long relief until he gets his act together

Missed opportunity. AGAIN

Most of this disgusting season has been defined by Missed Opportunities.

They are a terrible situational hitting team. They also strike out way too much. I have to think the hitting coaches are going to be fired.

The entire management team from the GM on down needs to be fired. A complete flush.
It’s the only way
