They lost Bregman on May 23d and then nosedived from 27-26 to 30-35 and are now back to 1 game over.  In the absence of Bregman, Devers OPS dropped from .984 to .905.

He had a worse stretch of about the same length of time, when Bregman was in the line-up, at the start of the season.

I'm not so sure the mini slump is related to Breg's injury, or not.

Devers has been streaky over much of his career.

Also, from May 23 to before today, his "slump" has been: .812 over 21 games. With slumps like that, who need consistent hitters? 18 RBI in 21 games is like 140+ RBIs over 160.

Devers just traded to the Giants, holy!

Wild how SS asked if I'd trade Devers for a top shelf pitcher, earlier in this thread.

I'm not sure I'd call Harrison "top shelf," and maybe the plan is to flip him (with others) for Skenes or the like.

Still feel like thjs team has underperformed. Crazy how a team like the blue jays have a better record than us.

I like our team on paper better than the Jays, but baseball is played on the field- not even on cardboard.

I think this trade is a little similar to the Nomar trade. Neither appeared happy to be on the Sox and were causing bad vibes to the rest of the team.

Yeah I am looking at thjs trade and it looks ridiculous for the Sox.

So are the Sox still paying that contract?

No. 100% paid by SFG.

We did take Jordan Hicks ($12M x 3 years after this.)

The two prospects have been named:

James Tibbs (1B/OF) 1st rd pick in 2024 and doing very well in A+ (almost equal BBs and Ks) Good Hit and Power tools, according to MLBTR.

Jose Bello (RHP) is relatively unknown, but has K'd 41% of his batters faced in 18 IP of rookie ball. He is from the D.R.

As I mentioned, harrison was a top 25 nationally ranked prospect in 2024, before graduating from prospect status.

There could be something here that works out very well, but it is almost all specualtion and not proven values we got back.

Just that prospects. Nothing that could help us now.  I hate this owner .

If you look at value for dollar, Devers wasn't even worth a bag of used balls, but the guy had tremendous value in our line-up. As MVP said, that is irreplaceable.

This almost like signing Story before letting Bogey walk. We signed Bregman, then  traded Devers. It's like the Nomat trade, too, as mentioned, already.

We aren't going to replace the money, this summer, so this sure looks like a punt on 2025, unless some other blockbuster is in teh works, where we flip Harrison and prospects for Skenes, but that is doubtful.

I disagree Moon. If the Sox really want Skenes, they have the tradable players to get him. I'm betting they will .

Harrison is not a prospect. He was in 2024. He pitched in MLB in 2023, 2024 and 2025. He started 24 games, last year, and the same amount of GS's as Crochet going into 2025.

The numbers posted are vastly different, but I have to think the Sox see something in this 23 year old. He has a career 4.48 ERA, 4.56 FIP (4.30 this year) and a 1.297 WHIP. (8.8 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9)

I have serious doubts.

This looks like a total salary dump and or attitude dump. The timing seems strange.

I do think it's highly doubtful this is a precursor to a Skenes like trade, but adding Harrison and 2 good prospects does make it easier to part with prospects to get him, when you consider how much we seem to value the youth movement.

There is a chance PIT likes Harrison more than any pitching prospect we could offer. (Slight- I agree.)

Hicks has a negative bWAR of -0.9. he's 1-6 with a 6.47 era. LOL...the more i look at this trade, the more i see the Red Sox got royally f***ed.

Hicks was the money part of the trade, but $12M x 3 is a drop in the Devers bucket.

This was about dumping salary and poor attitude while adding young talent.

I don't think his parents could call him a top shelf pitcher.

No, the trade was a salary dump so that Breslow could lick his wounds because he doesn't know how to talk to people. 🤐

The poor attitude that no player in the dugout had an issue with? The poor attitude that still kept the Sox towards the top of the fWAR standings in batting. I guess it just rubbed off on the starting pitching, eh?

Every team wants Skenes. Sox aren't getting him.

Devers went full circle...homers off then Yankmes Chapman makes him a media darling...Chapman comes to Sox...Devers HR v. Yankmes...traded. His Sox career revolved around his performance v. Yankmes often.
