The record goes to Rangers RHP Wes Littleton, who was awarded a save in a game Texas won 30-3.  Littleton had to have ice water in his veins in order to go a full hour without giving up a week’s worth of runs..

See, that kind of save should come with a smiley face attached to it like an asterisk.

I believe a fellow named Schiraldi once had 2 blown saves in the same game.

H was handed the straightest fastball ever created by a god.

That’s not possible.  After one blown save, he’d have been in line for the win.

The only way that could happen is if the pitcher blew a save, was moved to another position, his team retook the lead while someone else was on the mound (and in line for the win), and he was brought in to pitch again.  I have never heard of this happening…

And maybe not be called a save.

Im almost positive the winning pitcher Littleton nailed it down for that day was old friend Kason Gabbard…

Who was that guy for the Mets years ago who lost something like 25 straight decisions (might have even been a couple more than that). You have to be at least halfway decent for any team to keep sending a pitcher out there with that track record.

Edit - it was a guy named Anthony Young in 1992 and 1993. His ERA over those two years was about 4, which won’t get you all-star status but shouldn’t get you 27 straight losses either.

In Senzatela’s case, his ERA is north of 7, so there is some correlation.

Young started and ended that streak in the rotation, but a big chunk in the middle was spent as the Mets’ closer, so he came into the game with leads and would get credited with either saves or losses…

According to bb-ref, Schiraldi blew a save and lost Game Six of the '86 Series. Stanley, who allowed Calvin's inherited runners to score, obviously also blew a save.

But what if Schiraldi-- while watching Steamer wild-pitch home the tying run -- was offered a ticket for Game Seven at half price by a disgusted Red Sox fan in the front row (who had enough and was leaving early)?

If distracted Cal said, "No, thanks," and then bought a ticket for his shrink for Gm 7 at face value, didn't he blow the savings he could've had in the 12th?

How come no one talks about Schiraldi as an obvious double agent?

Think about it. (Or better yet, don’t.). Before the season, the Sox acquired him from the Mets.  Than he gets a blown save at a very key moment against the Mets.  And who goes on to win the title?  The Mets!

Coincidence?  I mean, that actually would explain it.  But how fun is that?

Right, I guess he just got the 1 blown save and the loss.  He did blow 2 leads...

Bell is convinced Lawson was planted in Boston's batting cages by Ramiro Mendoza to sabotage the team that had several Yankee fans I know very nervous over the winter.

One aspect that requires no statistical data, because anyone watching can confirm with their own eyeballs:

Blown Game.

I hear you.  It would be nice, though, if our offense would give our bullpen a little more cushion more often.  Maybe we wouldn't have so many blown games.

The 3 inning save is the most ridiculous.

Earlier this year, Cooper Criswell came in for the 7th inning of a game the Sox were leading 16-2.  Criswell pitched 3 innings and allowed FIVE RUNS to score, finished the game, and was awarded a save.  For getting 9 outs without giving up 14 runs…

Yeah, it's ridiculous.  Who even comes up with this stuff?

Not quite as ridiculous but not far behind is Papelbon once being charged with a blown save when he came into a game with bases loaded and no outs, and all he gave up was a sac fly.

When Schiraldi exited, the Sox were still up one run. The tying run scored on Stanley's wild pitch. Stanley gets the blown save. Schiraldi gets the loss on Buckner's error.
