By Sunday.  Like all accountants I need deadlines to motivate me. 😄

Have it by Friday.

Like all accountants, your self-imposed deadlines need to be brought it regardless of realistic timelines…

Swapping Story out (581 OPS) for Rafaela (639 OPS) doesn't seem like it moves the needle very much to me? Moving him to 3b would just be a temporary fix. His defense would be extremely wasted at 2b.

I think the move would be Story to 2B, Rafaela to SS, Duran to CF and Anthony to LF if they were going to start rearranging the deck chairs.

Impossible! He's too busy replying to other posters to make a new thread right now! It can't be done until Sunday when only the true sickos are on here.

From Passan's article in ESPN:

"It's really difficult to predict that someone is going to be successful out of the gate," Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told ESPN this week. "You're making these long-term, probabilistic bets that guys who perform the way Kristian and Marcelo and Roman have tend to be productive big leaguers. But does that happen in Week 1, Month 1, Season 1? You don't know. You try to round out their development as well as possible. It's really important that communication between our major league staff and player-development group is seamless so we know exactly what their training, game-planning and routines look like so we can control as many of those variables as possible knowing what we can't control."

"You try to make these decisions as unemotionally as possible, which is really, really difficult because the rest of the organization and I are incredibly invested in the success of this team," Breslow said. "You try to build out the best process you can when emotions aren't high so you can approach it as rationally as possible."

"We have to be willing to react and pivot to all the variables in front of us," Breslow said. "Things change. Guys get hurt. The lineup doesn't look exactly the same as we thought it would on Opening Day. We try to balance all these things."

Craig Breslow is lost in the sauce.

Especially since he got better from chasing butterflies, and that didn’t happen over night.

I don’t think Grissom is in any plans, or is making Abreu utility.

More likely to be traded than called up.

I thought at the time that Grissom had a shot at opening as the 2B if he would have had a good ST, but he didn’t, and the Sox went with KC.

The difference between his fielding and an average fielder does not make up for the difference between his anemic bat and an average bat.

Is a run saved not as valuable as a run scored?

Having Story-Hamilton-Wong-Rafaela-Duran hit one after another in the lineup can lead to a long stretch of frustration.

No doubt.  Extreme frustration.

The good news is, we will miss Sale in this series against the Braves.  The bad news is, it probably won't matter.

I'm gonna have a new thread on this offensive output stuff, just you watch.

I, for one, wait with bated breath.  I always enjoy your posts, Bell.  😊

Based on what?  He couldn’t possibly complain more than Devers did…

That's not really the question, though.

The questions is does he really save more runs over the course of a season vs an average fielder compared to how many less runs he creates over the course of a season compared to an average hitter.

It sure is, except when it comes to devers over bregman at 3rd, right?

It's not just a matter of Devers over Bregman.

Probably not, only because there are less defensive chances for a defender than there are offensive chances for a hitter.  There are also indirect benefits of great defense, though, namely for the pitching staff.

Roman Anthony is watching the Red Sox break every promise about his path

Calling Roman Anthony up now would further add to the Red Sox's problems with their young core.

The Boston Red Sox are doing everything they said they wouldn’t do and Roman Anthony, unfortunately, has a front seat to it all. They said they would be patient with the young trio of Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell. Yet, the two latter players have been pulled in all types of directions as the Red Sox are unnecessarily scrambling.

Mayer was called up to the Red Sox to play third base with Alex Bregman out and Rafael Devers not an option — remember the first base drama? Well, Mayer’s third base experience is a whopping six games. Before Mayer got his call-up, Campbell — an Opening Day call-up — has been all over the field.

He started as a middle infielder, then played some outfield and now he’s taking first base reps in practice to eventually transition to the Triston Casas replacement. Now, the murmurs for Anthony are mixed feelings.

Of course Red Sox fans want to see the core of the future that the Red Sox put so much stock in. But the Red Sox have shown they don’t have any idea what they want that future to be. Anthony’s call to MLB is probably overdue, but do you really want to see him called up at this juncture?

The Boston Red Sox are better holding off Roman Anthony’s MLB debut for now

At this point, the Red Sox need to take a step back and realize what they’re doing. They prided themselves on getting it right with their young players that they’ve invested so much into and that’s gone awry. They’ve mishandled two of the three young players, and calling Anthony up right now would add another distraction.

Anthony isn’t going to be the savior for the Red Sox and that’s not because he’s not good enough. It’s because the Red Sox are going to end up failing him. They’re starting to fail the other two.

The Red Sox said they would handle Marcelo, Campbell and Anthony with care, that’s partly why Anthony has yet to reach the MLB squad. The Red Sox have come up with every excuse imaginable to hold Anthony back. Bringing him up now would only create more problems.

Anthony needs to be promoted, but not like this. They need to figure out how they’re going to deliver on their promise to their young core. They’re coming up short now and aren’t showing any signs of rectifying the situation they’ve put them in.
