The ceiling on Romy Gonzalez is a platoon bench guy. The ceiling on Kristian Campbell is every day player who sees a few All Star Games. I'm not worried about where Romy plays going forward. If the Sox miss the playoffs by 4 games or 20 games, it doesn't make a difference to me.

These upside down Red Sox have to reach bottom to find their ceiling.

It's like they're starring in a baseball remake of the movie "The Poseidon Adventure" -- where a tidal wave flips a ship upside down and survivors have to climb up to the hull to try to escape.

Note to Cora and Kennedy: Gene Hackman, group leader in the original movie, doesn't survive that one, either. But somehow the bigmouth Ernest Borgnine does.

Yeah nothing builds confidence faster than a demotion.  He gets a corresponding paycut too? That should bolster his ego into the stratosphere…

Holiday got sent down by Baltimore when just like KC he was looking more suspect, and he’s turned out better for it. KC is looking real suspect right now especially after the victory lap some were taking after KC good start. Being suspect doesn’t build confidence either.

Holiday got sent down because he posted a .170 OPS in his first month. Campbell posted a .902 OPS in his

Have they asked Kristian to try OPS'ing 900 again?

Rob Bradford is not an “insider,” and his suggestion involves moving Devers to 1b, which is the type of task to make Sisyphus say “yeah, not again “…

Again, it's not just him and I that have suggested it.

And it's just as likely that his confidence continues to get crushed by being overmatched at the major league level as it is by him being sent down.

You act like it's never happened before in the history of the game.

And the Orioles ruined Holliday by calling him up too soon. He's only second on the team in hits and ribbies this year. No wonder they're in last... for now.

And what has Campbell done since? After his victory lap for starting off good he’s gone 9-75 in May with 23 K’s. Hopefully he comes out of it, but maybe he won’t. Sounds pretty suspect at the moment to me.

Agreed that his first month needs to be qualified by his second, and it doesnt buy him a lifelong immunity to being sent down, but....

Not sure what you mean about some kind of victory lap

Prospect one day, and suspect the next. Every day is a different day, which comes with highs, and lows. Are you happy with KC now?

We should all try to be happy. It's just a baseball game. And life is short.  The players are happy. They always say " we are just going to go out on the field and have fun".  The owners are happy. They get richer by the day. It's only the fans who develop ulcers. Why ?

I feel for the guy.  He's had a rough go of it the past two years, plus I think he gets an unwarranted bad rap for his quirkiness.  I wish him a quick recovery, and I hope he is our starting first baseman next year.

I don’t mind the quirkiness. I mind that he can’t stay on the field or be productive for long stretches. Wish it was different.
