Not to worry. Cora isn't worried about the 4 game skid.

@JonesandMego

More from Cora "A lot of people are talking about the four game losing streak. I don't think that is a reflection of who we are. We have a pretty good team and the conversations are about how we can be better. Not only now but in the near future. It's been good"

I agree with Cora's "we have a pretty good team." I also agree with those who say it's not good enough. The 'not good enough' is strictly in the hands of the FO and ownership.

Oh, come on. We fans can afford to hit the panic button, but shame on any manager who says, "I just read on talksox that some guy named maxbialystock thinks the last 4 games are the end of life as we know it and I completely agree with him (or it)."

In fact, this entire season has been one of ups and downs and more surprises than we can count. I'm over-reacting--or at least I hope it's over-reacting--to these last 4 games because the month prior was so terrific.

And Cora has every right to emphasize the good aspects of this team. A good battle captain--and Cora has proved to be just that--should never take counsel of his fears.

Nicely put.

I know you need a trading partner, but as the last 4 games has shown the BP needs help NOW. 3 losses late in the game when you had the lead. Don’t wait for another week, and watch more losses pile up, so if you’re going to make a move make it now.

It would be shocking, but actually very welcome for Criswell to throw a 9 inning, 80 pitch shutout, while the offense scores about a dozen.

Realistically, if Criswell could throw 6 innings of 2 run ball, and the offense score 5 or more, I'd be happy. Those pesky 7-8-9 innings, I'm thinking Dom Smith.

Dom Smith or Mr Anderson? That's a tough call. Of course, Cora can't use DOM unless he has a 10 run lead or is behind by 10. With a lesser runs scored game, he wouldn't use Mr. Anderson, unless he was the only one left.

With Mr Anderson and Horn on the SOX, it has to be damn scary how bad the pitching must be on the farm.

Literally not one AAA pitcher ready to be called up. Mata and Campbell injured , all kinds of issues. At least 3 marginal guys, Weissart, Horn, Anderson on the big squad. Max would probably put Bernadino as a marginal guy now too.

Brad Keller, Trey Wingenter and Alex Speas are all on the 40.

We could add any of these to the 40, if we wanted to call them up:

Zach Penrod .593 OPSA (AA/AAA)

Lucas Luetge .630 in 36 IP AAA

Ryan Zeferjahn .634 in AA/AAA

Chase Shugart .685 in AAA 50 IP

Jason Alexander .719 at AAA- most IP on the farm

Luis Guerrero .716

Grant Gambrell .741

The Rockies' booth was talking about Rafaela and how rare it is for an elite CF to also be a very good SS. The only other player they could think of was Robin Yount.

I believe, based on his athleticism, that the oft injured Story would have also been a very good CF'r.

I'm sure the same thing would hold true for Betts.

I don’t think Yount went back and forth between the two though. He was either the Brewers ss or their cf.

That is correct, but it was a discussion of an everyday player excelling at those two positions.

Okay. They may be correct. I can’t think of anyone for that particular combination (if Mookie plays several years at short for the Dodgers, he could be one, but he mostly played right field)

Rockies announcers also made a point I totally agree with that the everyday SS is usually the best athlete on the field. They mentioned that during the MLB draft, SS's, more than any other position, are picked mainly because of their athleticism.

I'm just guessing, but Betts probably would have been a very good CF'r, but the SOX did have Bradley, who was in a class of his own defensively.

Yep, and that’s certainly true when drafting high schoolers. The only exception would be a lefty, and he’d be playing center as an amateur. As the best athletes on the field, virtually all of them pitched in high school at least some of the time.

College draftees are a little different, since most big time programs have a few players who will play at least in the low minors, so they get spread out the field.

Good to see the O come to life.

Ref almost had 3 hits, so far.

O'Neill is a beast. I hope he has finally silenced his critics.

Good to see Devers show some life.

Criswell gets the top award, so far.

Hope he can go long and save the pen.
