Cora tried to squeeze a little too much juice out of Kutter's citrus tonight. Should not have been out for 7th .

Booser tries to make one of those glove flips and lets in 2 runs.

I thought so too, but he only threw 83 pitches. Crawford threw 77 pitches in the first 6 innings. If 77 is implemented as the new pitch limit for starters, the bullpen is going to have problems.

2 errors and what should be 2 unearned runs in the 7th.

With the K, both (and all future runs this inning) are unearned to the team.

Devers compounds the inning.

!4 K's in a losing effort with a less than great defense tonight. Ends the streak at 5 . Still can win the series with a strong weekend .

Good job, Vegas, but nothing lasts forever, especially a SOX winning streak.

Every good player slumps. I'm not sure why every Devers slump or mini-slump needs to be brought up. It's a natural thing for even the best hitters.

As for being the "ugly face," I don't think I'm alone thinking that is a response I "really don't get."

With a .901 OPS, I'd wish we'd have 9 ugly faces.

Poor, poor Raffy. One day he’s Devers Forever, and another day he’s Never Devers. The life of a $300M man playing for the Red Sox. Last night he played a Stinker Roo with 3 K’s, and a throwing error. Ugly Face? You never know what will pop up on a game thread.🙈🤭🤫

Great Day in Boston yesterday with the Duck Boats rolling through the streets celebrating the WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON CELTICS. Great, Great Fun for all. FUN for the 1-2 million people who showed up, and FUN for the whole Celtics organization. A FUN, FUN day, and a great time for everyone. I guess the Red Sox game wasn’t as fun last night as some of the Little League players played D last night.

Ref on the bench vs a RHPs is one thing, but to me, vs a LHP, this is criminal. At least put Rafaela at SS and Ref in the OF, if you insist on playing Yoshida.

Okay, I'm done ranting on Yoshi over Ref v LHPs.

Oh no Cora is a criminal! I agree Ref Man should have been in the lineup last night, and most likely for NOshida. I don’t think that will pass as a criminal offense though.

Read elsewhere that Refsnyder has been dealing with a sore right knee and that's why he was out last night.

Also read Cora has said Yoshi is the FT DH, so that makes it Ref vs others, now- once he is healthy.

And if Yoshida continues to flail they'll have to make a move. Can he be sent to Worcester?

soxprospects says he has 3 options.

I can see the reasoning on not having someone like him on the bench. He'd be a back-up DH, PH'er and emergency LF'er. That is not useful depth.

The way our bench has been doing, unless there is an injury, I'm not for weakening it by sending DHam, Romy or Valdez down to accommodate a slot for Yoshi.

(I'm assuming Dalbec gets demoted when Abreu is called up.)

How long a leash would you give Yoshi to start hitting?

A week?

Two weeks?

Three?

Yes, Dalbec's demotion is official.

Yeah, 2-3 weeks, I guess.

Ah the saga of the $100M man. It’s funny to look back at the comments on the Yoshida thread when they signed him that I was NOT to thrilled at, which most on here were. Bloom had so much of a vision he closed the bidding down in record time with that contract offer. Like I said earlier a parting gift by Bloom, and now there’s not much FUN watching him.

Bobby D has about as much business in a MLB uniform as i do.

All due respect to moonslav--and he has earned a lot--Yoshida was not the biggest problem in last night's loss. For one thing, he made no errors whereas Valdez put that lead guy on with an error, then Booser made the error on a sac bunt that brought two Cincinnati runners home for two unearned runs. Then Devers made an error, which did not result in another unearned run.

I would definitely have started Ref, a righty bat, at DH--over Yoshida--but the righty bats weren't all that great against lefty Abbott. O'Neill, Dalbec, and Rafaela were all hitless. So was Devers, a lefty bat, but one with an OPS of .897. So was Yoshida, of course. One Sox dinger was by righty Wong and the other by lefty Duran.

With Abreu back--I think today, but maybe tomorrow--the Sox three best outfielders are Duran in LB, Rafaela in CF, and Abreu in RF. They are all good at the plate and in the outfield.

So that leaves three DH's, all with negative DWAR's and very different OPS's:

O'Neill (.886)

Refsnyder (.883)

Yoshida (.639).

So why play/keep Yoshida? Five reasons. 1. He's the only lefty bat among the three. 2. His contract is a significant sunk cost: $90M for 5 years plus $3M bonus. 3. We know he could hit in Japan, and it's possible he needs more time to adjust to America and MLB pitching. 4. Maybe that wrist is still affecting his swing. If it is, the Sox could put him back on the IL. 5. With Abreu back on the active roster, Dalbec returns to Worcester, and the Sox still have redundancy in all positions.

Maybe less.

At least we could get a laugh seeing you in one. Dalbec makes me cry!

There is an issue with the 3 OFers you listed.

Abreu should never start vs LHPs and maybe Rafaela might be needed or used at SS some days.

O’Neill needs to play FT when healthy, and Ref v all lefties at minimum.

With so much overloading, maybe we trade an OFer for a P or 2Bman
