Most of the pitchers that have thrown over 5 innings have been very solid. Whitlock has given up runs, but only has a 1.06 WHIP (11K/1BB).

Chris Murphy has been the only guy to really look rough (5.14 ERA, 1.86 WHIP). Jacques and Kelly are most likely to start in AAA. Announcers were pumping up Zeferjahn as a name to remember, but he wound up with the highest ERA and WHIP in Spring Training. Another reminder to turn the sound down and generally ignore the writers.

Today's game in the 4th inning might show a good reason to keep both Rafaela and Duran on the lefthanded-hitting-heavy Red Sox roster.

The Gameday report vs. Cardinals' southpaw Liberatore:

RHH O'Neill, single.

LHH Casas grounds into a force out.

RHH Rafaela pulls a two-run home run.

LHH Valdez grounds out.

RHH Wong pulls a double.

LHH Duran sees 3 pitches -- swinging strike, swinging strike, swinging strike -- inning over.

-- transcripts from the latest front office conference

That statement is much too clear and straightforward for our front office. You'd have to dress it up in several layers of ambiguity and throw in a touch of WTF does that mean? before they could use it.

The crucible of our machinations presupposes the acquiescence of a pendulous fanbase, as reflected by remunerations at the turnstiles.

Are you talking about the same front office that once said “baseball players are expensive”?

Not sure I realized Romy played OF. When I've seen him play IF, he's been pretty good defensively. He can't hit though. If they needed an emergency OF callup from AAA, they should make a 40 man move and add Contreras. Left side of the IF? I think Romy would be ok for a little while, but he'd be hitting 9th.

But why would the Sox bench Devers and Duran on opening day? They're likely facing RHP Luis Castillo.

They've had a long Spring Training and the flight to the West Coast can be exhausting. Building in the rest days early and often just makes sense.

On opening day? Even Cora isn't so liberal with rest days!

It might have to be. I'm not so sure the Sox can keep Gonzalez, Hamilton, and Dalbec all on the 26 man roster to start the season without a couple more injuries...

I was thinking they should even skip Bello in the rotation to help manage his innings!

Are you saying that Romy doesn't take his career seriously?
