According to soxprospects.com, these prospects will be MLB ready, next season:

Early '25: Mayer, Teel, Meidroth

Mid '25: Anthony, Fitts

Late '25: Campbell, Dobbins, Jordan, Penrod

Already seen time in the bigs: Sogard & Horn

Graduated in '24: Rafaela, Abreu, Slaten, DHam & Booser

There's a chance Penrod is up this year for a cup of coffee.

Anthony - plays every day.

Romero and Mayer - spend a lot of time on the DL.

Are California kids softer than Florida kids????

Yorke had injuries and was also a CA guy.

I heard all 3 promoted.

Throwing the fans a bone.

More about making room for all the players that need playing time due to the FCL season ending, DSL ending and college guys getting drafted.

Jhostynxon and Castro were promoted to POR.

Sox typically like a guy to have at least 250 PA's at a level doing well before they promote a guy, Mayer is over 500 and has looked great this season. It was time, no bones.

Anthony over 400 and becomes the youngest player in AAA for the Sox in almost 50 years.

Teel also had over 400 PAs

It was time for these guys.

Agreed. He seems ML-ready, now, but likely not ML goo enough to stick around.

I'm not sure about the 250 thing anymore now that there's a new CBO. It does seem like they take the promotion to AAA pretty seriously. The most important part is just making sure each roster has space for everyone to get their time in. The reason Campbell isn't up (not just AA PAs) is that there aren't enough open spots on the roster in AAA. If Campbell was in AAA, it'd take time away from Meidroth, Mayer or Anthony. Somebody would have to sit.

They need bulk innings and Penrod can go 2-3 here and there.

What I meant by that is more about......you can't really find too many guys who get promoted before 250 PA's.

There are exceptions, like when Roman Anthony gets 10 games in the FCL. Campbell isn't quiet at that threshold, but he's close, but for reasons you stated he's probably staying in AA this year. Likely starts next year in AAA, or is quickly promoted.

I don't think FCL stints are held to a 250 standard especially now. Maybe even Salem would get players pushed before 250 due to the drop in talent level.

They're not, hence exception. You'll always find an exception if you go digging, but that's the general rule of thumb. I don't know, it's not my rule, I've just heard the guys at Soxprospects say multiple times that that's the gold standard with the Sox player development on promoting guys. There's also certain things they look for as well, and I'm sure that number is fungible. If a guy is a little over 200, checks all the boxes of what they're looking for, and there's a spot in a level above them, they move.

Jhostynxon - promoted after 209

Castro - promoted after 511 (almost time for a pension)

Feels long, but he's 21 in Portland now.

Rule 5 eligible this offseason.

Well that's what happens with a lot of these IFA guys who start playing at 17. A lot of the guys from that era also lost a year of development due to covid, I'm sure a lot of other teams are feeling a pinch.

We seem to have traded some of the guys clogging up that 40 man decision to be made this offseason.

Penrod needs to be added or is MiLB FA this offseason.

If Dalbec isn't on the Opening Day Roster next year, he becomes a FA.

Rule 5 eligible:

Angel Bastardo

Allan Castro

Hunter Dobbins

Richard Fitts

Michael Fulmer

Grant Gambrell

Jhostynxon Garcia

Bryan Gonzalez

Luis Guerrero

Nathan Hickey

Blaze Jordan

CJ Liu

Yordanny Monegro

Christopher Troye

They probably add 4 of these guys: Guerrero, Monegro, Fitts, Garcia

Maybe trade Wikelman to make room?

We may have room for 4 without dealing Wikelman, but trading him would not hurt my feelings.

We have plenty of trade/DFA guys:

Dalbec

EValdez

Heineman (Teel?)

Horn

Westbrook

Murphy

Mata

Bernardino

These guys see their control end in a couple months:

Pivetta, Jansen, Martin, O'neill, Garcia, Sims, paxton

Keller and D Smith

The only issue is that it's adding a few of 40 man guys than may not play right away. Under Bloom, they always seemed to have too many guys on the 40 man (like Hudson Potts) who had no chance of helping the Sox in the near future clogging up 40 man space.

Is this something other teams avoid?

We do seem to have 2-3, every year. This year, it was Wikelman & Perales. I can see why we kept them from Rule 5.

Next year, it might be Monegro & Jh Garcia as Guerrero and Fitts could be ML depth.

Is two, too many?

Next year it would be: Monegro, Jhostynxon, Perales (possibly IL all year?), Wikelman (unless moved)

I think Guerrero would be an up and down reliever so has value. I think Fitts would be the spot starter for BOS.

Perales will probably start the year on the 60 day IL, but he would take a roster spot until opening day.

I don't think they keep both Monegro and Wikelman on the 40- stashed in AA with no hope of playing in MLB.

JH Garcia has to be protected and kept on the 40, unless we trade him. He's too good to let go.

Damn. Clemens, Fred Lynn and Reggie Smith all might finally get their numbers retired... in about 20 years (if they're still around).
