Is Mata still under 28?

The guy has pitched 130 IP total in the last 5 years. Are the Sox he magically morphs into an ace what with all that rest?

DFA him instead of useful players like Smith…

They can hold off DFA'ing Mata due to his injury. Smith needed to stay on the 26, so that was why he was the correct choice to go. I suppose we could have demoted Romy (.790) and DFA'd Mata, or Dalbec, or...., but Romy can play 1B, too.

Mata is on the 60 IL and doesn’t count against the 40.

Why do we keep dalbec???

He has options. Smith needed to stay on the 26 not the 40.

I do think Dalbec gets the axe, this winter.

Valera stays at Salem? Interesting

Futrell - I saw pitch a couple times. Stuff is barely ok. Maybe Bailey sees something there

Aita - could be great but could flame out! The stuff has potential but he never put it together

Valera is just 18, and all they are saying is he starts the season at Salem, which is pretty nice for his age.

I'm liking how our minor league pitching is improving in quantity and quality with every week that passes, and the draft helped.

Is this the new normal, to develop pitchers with mediocre stuff???

Is this the new normal, to develop pitchers with mediocre stuff???

I'm no expert on acquiring and developing young pitching prospects. I'm not sure about your "mediocre stuff." You may be right.

I'm just looking at how well many of our pitchers on the farm have been doing, this year. I know the numbers do not always tell the whole story, but it seems to me, we have more promising young pitchers than a year ago, 2 years ago, 3 years ago and on and on.

Young pitchers can move from mediocre to better stuff as they age and move through the system. Sure, it would be nice to have a few pitchers that start out with electric stuff that most ranking services rate as worthy of being in the top 10, 20, 50 or 150 prospect rankings. Maybe we reach that point, in the next couple years. It was a shame to see Perales join some lists, then need TJS, but that seems to be a more and more common thing for young pitchers ranked highly at a younger age.

I'm not sure about the improvement of our acquisition and development systems, and maybe I'm wearing dayglow pink glasses, but I think I see improvement, even if just in quantity. Adding more pitchers with hopes, even if slight, does increase the odds on more pitchers making meaningful impacts at the big league level, at some point. We've seen a few surprises in recent years- more than we saw for over a decade after the Lester-Buch era.

I'm going to stay optimistic on this.

These are some OPS Against, this year....

.360 Valera (52 IP) #27 is astounding! FCL>SAL

Again, this list does not blow anyone away, but to me, it looks like step in the right direction.

One can count 30-45 or more pitchers with promise, here.

That was Bloom’s philosophy. Who are you referencing?

Anthony had a nice game with Woo. 2-3 w 2BB.

Woo won 10-8.

POR lost 7-3 and had 3 unearned runs score on Sandlin, and GRE lost 6-3.

SAL lost 11-8, as Valera finally had a bad game. Arias went 3-5 w BB.

The 2025 Woo line-up looks pretty good!

1. Mayer S

2. Campbell CF

3. Anthony RF

4. Teel C

5. Meidroth 3B

6. Valdez 2B

7. Gasper/Hickey DH

8. Jordan 1B

9. Sogard/Rosier LF (Maybe Jh Garcia by the end of 2025.)

It'll be interesting to see where they push Campbell to. His RHB would be good to rotate in the OF and 2B. His defense is pretty rough for SS at the MLB level.

The Week of Wehunt!

Congrats to Blake Wehunt, the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week!

He could probably be okay in LF, but we have enough of those, already. Maybe CF?

I'm not sure he can be a plus at 2B.

With Duran and Rafaela, do they need another CFer? They need a RFer, a good 2B, SS, 3B. If Campbell could play RF, he could be a good platoon with Abreu.

RF in Fenway is a big challenge, but if Campbell could pull it off, then yes.

I like the idea of eventually having Mayer at SS and Story at 2B. That improves the middle IF defense, a lot. Forcing Rafaela to FT CF improves the D, a lot, as well. We can do a lot to improve our D without any additions or hurting the offense by benching better batters.

Abreu-Ref in RF is not great. Devers at 3B is who he is. Casas is no wonder on D. Wong is still learning, but we could see a big improvement on D, next year with Story at middle IF and Rafaela in CF FT. Mayer should be better than DHam-Romy-Sogard-Grissom on D. I'm not sure Campbell is, but he has time to work on it.

Right now, Campbell is jack of all trades and master of none. His defense is below par all across the diamond. He's athletic enough to figure it out somewhere, but he's just being shuttled around.

I forgot we even traded Kavadas.

Let's see how he does in the bigs.

As of today, he has 6 K's, 0 H's, 2 BB's and a 67% k rate. Only 3 games though.

Yorke is batting 350 with 844 OPS (0 HR) in 17 G since being traded.

Yes, in AAA.

I hope they both go on to do well, just not against the Sox.
