I think it is Dugo in LF for now. Dominguez will be the CFer after the ASB, so they don't need a long termer there. I would keep Judge where he is most comfortable. Now, if they get Soto, Judge moves to CF and we roll from there. But for now, Dugo LF, Judge RF, ??? in CF

I don't think it's guaranteed that Dominguez takes over as soon as he is healthy. The guy has barely played above AA. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him until Sep call ups

Yanks are "close to" finalizing a deal for Soto.

Apparently, the deal includes King, Thorpe and "at least 2 more players."

I saw 3rd guy is likely brito or Vazquez. I'd prefer we got rid of brito

LF: Soto

CF: Judge

RF: Dugo

A nice upgrade.

I know who I want in the first round in the Talksox FBB league…

I think Brito could be a really good multi-inning reliever. He's a lot like King was a few years ago. Began as a starter but couldn't really harness his stuff, got sent to the bullpen and was able to use his starter's arsenal to be be really effective over few inning bursts. Personally I'd rather keep Brito over Vazquez.

So

C: Trevino

1B: Rizzo

2b: Torres

SS: Volpe

3B: Lemahieu

LF- Soto

CF- Judge

RF- Verdugo

DH- Stanton

That is an improved lineup. Glad we didn't part with any major offensive players. I loved King, but he only had two years of control left. Thorpe is the big get for SD.

With King out, it makes me think Yama is a gonna be a done deal to NY

1. Cole

2. Yama

3. Cortes

4. Rodon

5. Schmidt

By dealing King, Vazquez and Brito, we definitely damage our depth in the pen. Probably need to make an add there.

Your pen depth might not be the biggest issue. Who is going to pick up those 20+ Rodon starts when he is out?

You sure these players are all in the trade? Have yet to see anything finalized.

Curry reported on air that King, Thorpe, Brito, Vasquez and catcher Kyle Higashioka are all likely to be included in the trade for Soto.

Does seem like a bit more than the Sox got for 1 year of Betts.

Holmes, Jlo, Kahne, Hamilton, Effross is a great top 5.

Gil as a long man.

Marincaccio is the wild card. And a lefty like krook or Ramirez. Not a bad bullpen at all.

Sure does, but I do think Downs was valued quite highly, at the time.

Experts grade the Dugo trade from the Sox perspective:

C from ESPN

B- from FOX

??? from Law, but he wrote this...

“It’s a baffling deal unless the Yankees have something else lined up to keep Verdugo moving, although even then it’s still kind of baffling given what Verdugo’s likely to earn in arbitration.

Verdugo is a platoon bat, and the sooner that everyone accepts this the better off we’ll be. Over the past three years, he’s had 532 plate appearances against lefties, and he’s hit .238/.301/.314. Boston’s insistence on playing him every day cost the team a couple of wins over that period, and it’s not like he justified that decision with his defense (he’s been negative in Outs Above Average for three years running) or his intangibles (he was benched last year for lack of hustle and for showing up several hours late for a game). He’s also likely to make close to $10 million in arbitration this year, which I think would have made him a non-tender consideration.”

Don’t forget Massarotti, who likely gave a poor grade because the Sox didn’t land Stanton…

Yankees just traded Soto. They already added Verdugo and Soto, and we? A 4.5 ERA reliever? Awesome!

We added a reliever??!?!

Didn’t we?

Well, one guy. But he didn’t have much experience and his ERA after a few IP is way under 4.5..

Thorpe is probably a reliable mid rotation starter. King hurts, but he’s got only 2 years left before FA anyway and has a long injury history. If they snag Yamamoto, then he wasn’t necessary. Vazquez and Brito were depth, but not top end level pitching.

What I like is they didn’t touch their best offensive prospects and with Dugo and Soto on one year deals, we have the chance to see what Pereira, Dominguez, Volpe, Wells, and Peraza can do. In the end, I like the deal as the Yanks need to be relevant for them to make money. If they didn’t spend and left the fans in another year of apathetic spending, the financial loss would be considerable

Not sure if owners of the Red Sox feel quite the same way about their club. Ever-increasing irrelevancy may bother them, but Fenway still thrives as a lucrative tourist attraction, especially now with more tickets available to fans from opposing teams happy to invade Boston on group road trips.

Yanks are going bold. If they don't extend Soto, this deal could really hurt- long term.

MAN! Judge & Soto in the same line-up, and the Cy Young winner. Boone better get results!

Yeah, especially if they also get Yamamoto or Snell...

Yankees offseasons have felt like an afterthought recently. Interesting to see them go big again.

Now what do they do with Verdugo?

I don’t think it will hurt them long term.

They gave up one legitimate starting pitching prospect, two fringey pitchers that could go either way, a veteran bullpen arm with 2 years of control left, and a backup catcher.

Who knows, maybe 2 of the 4 pitchers will hit. King has pitched pretty well the last 2 years and made the transition to starting very nicely. He's been somewhat injury-prone, but what else is new.

Sure is a different-looking package from what the Sox got for Betts.
